This is too painful a time for me. If it is bad, he's finished. If it is good, it can quietly go away.

I listened to it once and it seems like he does a good job rapping over these beats. However, these beats just don't sound right without Nas over them.

Honestly this is real wack, man.
Sounds like a third-rate Termanology. His voice needs more intensity to fuck with N.Y. State of Mind. *skip*
Talib Kweli's new "veteran" voice sounds horrible to me, too. And yeah, just not worth keeping on listening.
Deleted disgustedly. Couldn't get through it.

You can't blame people for paying homage, but this was doomed from the start.

No reason at all to do this. Will only make people want to hear Illmatic instead and shit on him. Dumbass move.

i think fashawn beat elzhi to the punch? either way, id still be interested in checking out elzhis attempt.

i didnt think this was horrible, but i didnt think it was great either.

maybe if they had reflipped the beats like when the inner loop cats did the illmatic remix album, but i agree with the fact that it probably shouldnt be touched in the first place. fashawn is still that dude tho

got to world is yours and had to throw on nas instead. I disagree with you guys that this is a bad move....its not gonna stop me from checking his other shit, and im sure he has a bunch of fans that have never heard illmatic. just a way to get youngers to check an album thats almost 20 years old. but its not gonna be good to anyone who's heard the original

Peeped the whole tape and all I can say is that it just sounds like a too long freestyle you just tuned into on a radioshow.

So did we get confirmation that Elzhi completely abandoned this? Also, where is your Steady B post? It's Friday!

Really wasn't that bad actually.

He followed the same themes and topics that Nas did on Illmatic without biting too hard. Obviously not nearly as good as Illmatic, but not an absolute travesty either.
