On a side note, that Prodigy/Alc tape from a few years back is absolute fire. Seriously underrated tape, nothing but banging New York rap. Nothing over lyrical, but those classic soulful beats, and grimy funk. We need a new tape like this to drop yesterday.

Dope track NaS killed it and ALC hooked it up, but there are way better ALC beats.

Monch - No Mercy
P - Keep it Thoro

Are at the top of the list, add on.

keep it thoro is my personal favorite, but anything he did in the early 2000's was really good. I'm not a huge fan of his newer beats- they mostly sound the same and aren't as grimey. the stuff he did on Murda Muzik, Home Field Advantage, and even on the Piecemaker was all fire.

What I appreciate about ALC is not only those top beats mentioned above, but some unique styles of production he's brought. He brought a new style of sampling Soul and making it sound dark, dramatic & threatening in a different way than others have done it.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IS8Moin0COI&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IS8Moin0COI&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Papoose - Get Shot feat. Al Capo & Tommy Gunz

Nas - My Will http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtfiZJ85QM8

if it's not Soul, then it's his ability to take from other genres like early 80's Rock or foreign soundtrack music and bring a sound of darkness previously unheard of. He's known for the gutter beats but even some of his lighter sounding beats have alot of emotion to them like Tic Toc, Saigon's In A Mess, Different Worlds, etc.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/x3ZfOcmBWQQ&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/x3ZfOcmBWQQ&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I think when you listen to producers like Sid Roams or Vanderslice, you can tell how ALC's style as rubbed of and influenced people.

Def sticks to the soul sample beginners manual, but that sample kills me. Simple, but so good. I'll leave any Cage jokes to the rest of ya'll.
