Remarkable Mayor: thoughts? don't sleep (NJ rap ish)

Post by Verge »

Tone Liv and B Stilts are Remarkable Mayor. Some of the only dope rap ish coming out of NJ right now, imho. Jamrage stated that this LP is "meat and potatoes rap music" and I couldn't have said it better myself.

They're around my age, in their thirties, I believe, and are doing what the fuck they think is dope and thats the bottom line.
Neither dude is a lyrical miracle makert, but they're good and the beats are bangin and I think they make good songs.

This LP is so under the radar that I don't think it's even on CD or vinyl, might just be digital downloads. :(
At the least, peep the previews and the youtube clips and let me know what you think. I'm a dinosaur and this type shit pleases me.

Here's where to cop digital and check the previews:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Campaign-Expl ... B003CJ0OUC
or somewhere on iTunes.

Philaflava put "Raw Banger" on the latest Sounds Like The 90's:
http://philaflava.blogspot.com/2010/08/ ... st-10.html

and "Doomz Day" on Sounds Like The 90's volume 11 here:
http://philaflava.blogspot.com/2009/11/ ... me-11.html

and here's their facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/remarkablem1#!/ ... 3089322157

The production on this album is handled by a slew of beatmakers but Remarkable Mayor keeps a good ear for beats and picked the right ones to where this album isn't really all over the place. NOt the most cohesive, but every track is decent at worst. Not a wack song on here. The Roc marciano LP is the only other rap album that I can say that for this year. I'm not comparing the two, just saying that neither one has any garbage on it.
Also, imho, the dude who isn't the chunky one, I think Tone Liv, is the better of the emcees.

Quality hip-hop. Nothing you'll ever hear say is classic. Nothing you'll ever hear say is wack. Just good shit.

Agreed. They do a perfectly respectable 2010 version of the Artifacts' "talk about nothing but sound fly" style. Oddly enough this approach goes a long way in this day and age when you have ten million clones trying to be the next twitter sensation (peep the best new rapper tournament for some mind-bogglingly dull artists...)

Glad you cats are feeling this. Good shit you did on SB, drizzle. Props.

I didn't wanna make a new thread for this next dude cause he might not warrant one and I have NO info on him, except that Custodian Of Records did the beat and they're from Jersey and all know each other. Remarkable Mayor posted this on their FB:
<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGAU-9n5zS8?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGAU-9n5zS8?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
I think dukes is original at least and I don't mind this track. Really sounds like a fake PArty arty near the end of that first verse, though. Maybe, half RA Rugged Man, half Party Arty?

No doubt T&B, the least I can do for stuff you hooked up in TROY in the past.
Tone Liv's beat selection is pretty top notch, imo, and I think he's a bit better than we've made him out to be as an emcee. Still not great, by any means, but after giving all these songs a few listens, he's got some good concepts and story telling. Enjoy!

I just wanted to comment that "The Campaign" album is a certified banger from start to finish. Shit hasn't left my rotation since it entered. Beside Odd Future & Tha Connection, these NJ niggas been really doin it for me as far as new hip-hop goes.
