Inspired (nh) by Atmosphere's new double EP thread.

Across all genres and sub-genres, who is selling music at an indie level rivaling Atmosphere?

Came in to say Tech N9ne too. He befriended the right group and borrowed that fan base for dollars.

Without actual numbers this is just going to be a lot of speculation.

I would rather see numbers for overall profits made from total publishing royalties based on an entire year. That would be to include albums, singles, merchandise, streaming profits etc...

I'm not gonna lie.. that dude puts on a great show. I saw him recently. He was with his boy Bruno who was doing live music during the set. Shit like playing the electric guitar, keyboard, trumpet, etc. Don't sleep on his live show regardless of what you might think of his music.

I have seen Soundscans showing the last 2 Atmosphere releases selling 140+ at the time. I don't think anyone else is really doing that. I think even Tech N9ne has dropped off. He might sell in a few months what Atmosphere did in a week.

Though times change fast, and who really knows even if Atmosphere will continue to do the numbers they have.

I guess I forgot about ICP, who were mentioned. I can't really think of anyone else. No one really sells on a major level these days, let alone indie.

Surprised no one's said JMT or Ill Bill. Maybe Immortal Tech as well? He got a monopoly on that whole pseudo-intellectual, conspiracy-rap fan base.

Someone told me that Tech N9ne single handedly made more money than Def Jam as a whole last year...

I laughed at "Bruno"!

Also, yeah he puts on a good show. Budo knows like 30 different instruments.

ICP sorta cheats when it comes to their record sales. Somehow, they've managed to brainwash their fanbase into becoming collectors of everything they put out. In the case of album releases, they make multiple versions, having multiple artworks or included dvd's for their cds.
So, what reads on paper as four albums sales, usually is one juggalo purchase.

fair sleazy j, but what we're measuring here is SALES, and if they manage to pull that shit off then it counts.
1. Nas
2. Drake

that's pretty much it fam.

I believe this is called marketing. I tried to find a way to say that without sounding like a dick, I gave up.

Aesop Rock probably does pretty well. Wikipedia claims None Shall Pass debuted at #50 and sold 13,000 in its first week.
