Chu is from Sacramento and is working with Lee Bannon (a producer that a dig). Two cuts from an EP that drops tomorrow. Sounds like the 90s?

only 19.. kid is the truth.
he's got some insane potential.

I interviewed him for a local mag, had him meet me at a bar not knowing he was 19. still took him in because it was the afternoon.
this album was supposed to be out in May. Glad it's finally dropping and that its getting national blog coverage - although there's something strange going on with 2dopeboyz coverage of the Sac scene.. don't quite get why there's always Sac dudes on that site.

he is fucking prolific with the writing.
I was talking to another local act that featured him on a song and the kid wrote 4 verses for a potential guest spot at the studio just on some A.D.D. perfectionist shit.

I was wondering about his age.

What other Sacramento dudes?

this track is fire. Beat is sick and he rips it. Dude definitely does not sound like he's from sacramento. If you had said this was some one off 12" from some obscure NY MC from the mid 90's I would not have doubted it for a second. Except for at the end where he says "Sactown" He have any mixtapes or anything like that out?

Free EP out tomorrow called Hot n Ready :pause:. I won't be online all day tomorrow to post it here, but you can check for it on OnSmash.

This is some other shit with his crew but I don't feel it as much:

so in the past few months sac stuff on 2dopeboyz:
Illecism
C-Plus
DLRN
Doey Rock
Blapstar
Nicatyne - dropping soon
some Lee Bannon related stuff kinda counts, like the Willie The Kidd EP was recorded in Sac.

there's a little community of dope people coming up here, but they do a terrible job of promoting their shows. I never know when they are going down and I stay well tuned as to what's going down locally. They must literally text their friends and that's it.
There's plenty of free publications and message boards that an assortment of local musicians take advantage of, but the hip hop scene seems immune to this free publicity.
I've learned about all these dudes either by assignment or random word of mouth.

Son sounds like Fashawn lite, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Anyone listen to Lee Bannon's stuff before?

Can someone tell me if he does that shit to his beats on purpose? I dig his projects, but his stuff sounds so rough and not in a good (dilla) way.

he's kinda got a Madlib beat tape thing going with it. I feel.
If you check out Willie The Kid's Never A Dull Moment, you'll hear the same thing.

I kinda like it. gives these tracks an even more vintage feel on top of Chuuwee's style. Like this kid either dropped this tape today or was some unheard of dug up shit from the 90s.

anyways it feels like an aesthetic choice, but I could see how some find it a detractor.

I like it too, but I don't like when the beat is one one side of your headphones, which happened a few times on this release.

That Willie the Kid was slept on

This is good.

What is this off of, cause it's not on that joint he did with Lee Bannon. I liked the low tech feel of "Hot N' Ready", but I'd like to hear him over some more polished production.

Here's his bandcamp page, but no free downloads. Still, this cat would appear to be worth supporting.
