Met him at the Who Killed the Robots Tour in the city (SF) in 2001 at the rhymesayers booth. was an extremely nice guy and definitely opened my eyes to a lot of underground rap that I wouldn't have heard otherwise. RIP.

one of the best natural freestylers I've ever heard. Rest In Peace Mikey, you will be missed.

I always appreciated how young he was when he murdered all those battles and ciphers, coming up on Rhymesayers like a little brother or something. That's making it extra tragic. He was insanely creative and seemed like a good, lively dude. Condolences to his mom, Slug and everyone who knew him.

honestly think he was one of the best natural spontaneous rhymers in hip hop history. was surely ahead of his time in his era as a freestyle MC and was a great songwriter too.

J/K though, we all mourn differently. I do feel badly for someone passing so young.

smells like an OD, unless you man up and say otherwise
When somebody who isn't old/in bad health dies unexpectedly- there's going to be questions, and the more people in the know say shit like this it only raises suspicion. Don't be coy or preachy, just don't say shit at all.

Obviously this is way tragic. Dude was super talented.
Agree with Dids on this. Shit is sad because he was just 29 years old. I read just a month away from 30 too. Obviously this is unexpected so it raises doubts. He was a public figure so naturally people are going to be curious as to what happened but it's not fair to throw out assumptions either.
lots of utterly unsubstantiated rumors of suicide

That moment when he said the other rapper wanted to be his backup dancer in the Blaze Battle is definitely a top 5 moments in battling history, for certain.

Most definitely.

I wasn't very familiar with him beyond the Blaze Battle, but it is always tough to lose a young, talented person.

28 is too young to die. That's my age now.

Didn't follow his music outside of seeing battle footage either.

^You know.....the first time I met Slug.....Eyedea was with him for a show in College Park (iCON and Edan rolled with me to that show) and they were a damn good match for each other stage. I think DJ Precise was spinning for them at the time. Regrdless, looking back on it, that was some classic shit.......

I threw a show in which Eyedea performed at in NJ back in 2002. Not many people showed up. Probably a disappointment coming from their other shows, but his spirits were high and I remember him just performing on top of a chair for the whole show because there was no stage. He didn't get off the chair once. He just stood up there and completely destroyed it. His breath control was precise and his flow impeccable. I remember after seeing that show and realizing how important it was to be on point vocally. That you didn't need distractions, that a true lyricist could captivate an audience. He did that.

I also remember talking to Mike after the show. He was very candid and honest. He spoke to me like we knew each other for a while. Like he didn't just headline a show. He gave me his number to contact him regarding Pro Tools plug ins, which I ended up not needing. Never saw him again.

That was a tour he did with Prizm who unfortunately passed too early.

As far as an Eyedea song, I always like Read Wiped in Blue.

:icedit: However fake it might've been, the fact that Eyedea and Abilities both went out of their way to tell me how much they liked my music meant a lot to me. Eyedea was a great freestyler/lyricist/rapper/creative mind. Been pretty bummed all day. Poured out a PBR for the homie..

Neither did I. I just youtube searched it looking for the audio of it. It's kinda cool to see the shit they were referencing.
