Better Produced Album Since Dre's 2001

Post by Philaflava »

Whether its no longer cool to admit or not, 2001 was a fucking great album and a masterfully produced album. Maybe it wasn't all Dre but the fact remains it is still one of the best produced albums we've seen in a decade. And yeah I know it dropped in late '99.

So lists albums you feel are BETTER produced than this since its release.

Supreme Clientele, The Blueprint, Madvilliany, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2, The College Dropout & Graduation are all fantastic but not better IMO.

Are you talking about production in technical terms (sonics/mixing/mastering etc) or more as in overall results of the album (beats/concepts/sequencing).

I only ask because most people on here dont understand what good production is.

Anyway, the first Cuban Linx album should be mentioned, and Gang Starr 'Moment Of Truth'.

I tweaked the title to clarify. I'm looking for albums better produced since the 2001 release. If people don't understand what production is or what question is being asked well then there is always UGHH.

This could be retarded, but Hell Hath No Fury came to mind almost immediately.

better or just as good imo:

supreme clientelle, madvillain bootleg, edan's beauty and the beat, ugk's underground kingz, both el-p solos, g-side's the one... cohesive

i feel like i'm forgetting a couple too

i have no beef with 2001 in the slightest though, it's aged very well

all of these are just as good, and I'll also add El-P - Fantastic Damage (ISWYD falls off at the halfway point imo) and Aesop's - None Shall Pass which is amazingly well sequenced and expertly produced.

Might be alone on this, but from a production standpoint I think this deserves mention:

I thought None Shall Pass was produced amazingly, I agree with the el-p ones and late registration. Ghetto Report Card was solid as fuck to me on overall scope too

It kind of sucks to think about, cause with the style of production nowadays you will never get another Pauls Boutique or Nations of Millions again in the sense that dudes are going into studios with Million dollar budgets and their exclusive producers and spending the time to make that shit.
NICE CAT!

i'm with you on this

good call on hell hath no fury

cage's hell's winter, germination of his emo tendencies aside, was really well produced too

Black Album is good but I dont really think its particularly cohesive, having different producers on each track will do that to a album.
All the tracks stand up really well on their own though, which is an impressive feat in itself.

Hell Hath No Fury is a good shout. Not as good as 2001 but worth a mention, as is Tip's The Renaissance

agreed

as far as production it feels more like a collection of well produced songs than a cohesive album

Up From the Desert
Big Bang Boogie
Rip the Jacker
Violent By Design
Freezing World

Paradise Lost
Clin d'oeil

Black on Both Sides

I think that there are a lot of albums that can stand up with 2001's production.

There's a lot here that I agree and disagree with.

But I have yet to see anyone mention this contender:

I'm well aware. But I also get called that by people who think Kanye, Waka, Based God, Yela, and Gucci are dope.

So honestly, "it's like the pot calling the kettle a faggot."

It's kind of hard to decide unless we compare a certain style out of the styles of albums mentioned above to 2001. I see different albums mentioned here that are Hip Hop but the style of production is different than 2001, like Donuts and Petestrumentals.

you're confusing 'well produced' with 'albums you like'.

I'm really not. I think that the production on all of those I listed are prime examples of cohesion and really fit with the vibe of each individual album.

The problem is so many people put Dre on a pedestal. People don't even care about the production itself, if his name is mentioned, then no1 has better production.

Closemindedness is sad really.
