The 30 Greatest Hip Hop Demos

Post by Thun »

OMG COMPLEX LISTS ARE SO HORRIBLE YOU HAVE TO CLICK YOUR MOUSE BUTTON EVERY SO OFTEN OMG

List is legit. Chairman Mao. My only complaint is that OC's demo is top three material.

I mean he's got demos from Lord Finesse, Del, Cage, 213, Casual, etc, and no stupid concessions to random hick brain-dead regional scenes that only popped up in the last decade to appease the ever annoying contingent that complains when lists like this are skewed towards NY. What more can you want?

Wow, this is grrreat!!!
"Wicked = Genuinely loves Hiphop and respects it because he grew up during the time when it wasn't full of southern mongoloids and Lil Wayne rappers. From his mixes you can tell he knows his shit. The problem is, when you are a smart dude preaching to a bunch of fucking morons, you end up getting singled out as the douche."

It's awesome but I'm going to make a complaint anyway. Had a shitty day.

With the Native Tongues list (and other prior lists I assume) you could go into the source code and grab the html for mp3s. It required an effort but you could dl the songs if you wanted to. Hoewever, that doesn't seem to work anymore. You can view the source, but I can't figure out how to isolate the mp3 html, if that can be done.

These are demos. I'm not an expert but I can't imagine any legal ramnification arising from making old non-sold tracks availbable for free download. COMPLEX, post the demos so we can download them.

Am I missing something here?

Quite a few of these can be downloaded from this folder, which was linked on the very first TROY blog post:

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=f519 ... e9b67342b8

^you'll have to find out on your own if the ones chairman mao posted are of superior quality or exactly the same or whatnot.

If you like demos, TROY has lots:

This list is okay/cool. But Biggie's demo is not number one at all, imo.

edit: there's lots of good shit here, though, can't front.

good shit

most of these look like they're streaming through an embedded player, so you wont be able to easily take them from source code. you need a streaming audio ripper or Download Helper if you use firefox

but more importantly i'm thirsty for some Belvedere, lets all hop in an accord to go get some

Wow. This list is incredible. I haven't heard too many of these songs, to be honest.
Nice job. I guess we owe a lot to Bobbito for this one, presumably.

I doubt the world is even ready for Nicki Minaj's demo, so I'm fine with it.

it's not 'east coast bias'

it's 'rap started in the east and demos were the established way to get an a&r to get someone who matters to listen and get a record deal offer and the majority of such established rap labels were in the east so naturally the majority of the demos were from the east and thus the majority of these top 30 are from the east

oh.

well in all fairness mao's first sentence directly applies to bender:

"Hard as it may be to imagine nowadays, there was a time when you needed more than just an Internet connection and a liberal dose of self-delusion to launch your career as professional rapper"
