Left to his own devices, the negro will often conduct such strange rituals. Worry not, you are safe wherever you are.

Like these vids, especially the Bond one. The part where he says "Crackers love him like Re-Run on What's Happenin" is classic in the video with the confederate flags in the background.

Ha, yeah that's funny.

Billy's verse from Death From Above is definitely the shit. To write a verse from the perspective of a fighter pilot could come off real bad if not done right, but Woods not only puts you in the cockpit but taps into the psyche of the pilot.
I think it's about unmanned drones, like Predators.
Yeah, I guess it easily could be, is there a specific part that makes you say that?
The Geppeto, joystick and video game references, combined with the "powered by Intel" line.

Obviously, it's probably pretty open-ended but that is my interpretation...for today, anyway.
After one listen I feel like he is critiquing U.S. adventurism and mechanized permanent warfare in general, and its dehumanizing effects on both combatants and civilians, not just unmanned technology. The idea being that even the infantryman is reduced to a cold unfeeling, unthinking drone by his very participation.

Camouflage certainly makes for an interesting listen right now. Seems like a million years ago.

Still as good as ever, the reissue was sweet, but I still work the songs that were left out into the playlist. Amazing Grace, Fanaticism, and Dirge are my joints.

Yeah, me and Haitian Jack and COOLEH and a few others have had have had a Billy Woods circle jerk the last couple years, but can't seem to get anyone's attention.

The problem was likely that he was in a group, the Super Chron Flight Brothers with an annoying but talented MC named Priviledge. I can only guess that he annoyed people to the point that they didn't listen to billy, because you can easily find billy right at the top of my all time favorite MC list that I recently posted, and its not a joke.

Dude's put out 2 full length solos, 5 full length collaborative albums, several great mixtapes in seven years. Never comes wack.

Also, while Camouflage is a remarkable album to drop with (I don't think woods had been featured anywhere before it), I prefer the followup The Chalice. All of his verses on the Reavers album are excellent as well. I would start with those three albums in that order. The Vordul solo mix I posted a while back has several songs with billy, as Camouflage was sort of a collaborative effort with Vordul and they've worked together a lot since.

Billy and Priviledge were the Super Chron Flight Brothers...before Priviledge's ass bailed on billy and moved back to Philly. It's really for the best though, I always secretly wanted him to go solo again. He had three full lengths with Super Chron and few mixtapes, but he recorded the two solo albums I mentioned above as well as the MAD album and the Reavers album before the Flight Bros were even formed.

This mixtape dropped before their final album Cape Verde came out last year. The last song lone gunman is a sendoff diss track from woods to Priviledge.

And here's another great mixtape, Tour Support, that dropped before their first album-

Super Chron was billy woods and this cat from Philly named Priviledge. The group is defunct, presumably as of some time early last year or before.

I really think that Super Chron is one of those groups you are better off listening to their albums. They dropped Emergency Powers in 2007 and Cape Verde in 2010. Maybe just because I know everyone involved, but the strength of their music was how the LP's are really cohesive and conceptual.

That said, the Deleted Scenes mixtape is good. It dropped before their final group album, Cape Verde, in 2010. This is a link through POMB-
http://potholesinmyblog.com/download-su ... s-mixtape/

And they did a free album over some more eclectic production in between Emergency Powers and Cape Verde, called Indonesia. The first link that pops up is this one through Frank 151, http://www.frank151.com/2009/04/20/supe ... m-download

Of the SCFB records, I regard Cape Verde as the best but plenty of people would pick Emergency Powers and I might not argue too much.

As far as Woods solo shit, this mixtape is probably the best place to start for the simple reason that his last solo album was in 2006. Personally, I would take Woods verses as part of Super Chron over some of the older stuff, but hey, that's just me.

The Chalice came out it '04, not '06 unless there's another album from '06 that you're thinking about. It seems to me that a lot of woods fans rate The Chalice lower than me. I think it's his most defining album at this point and one of the most powerfully visual albums I've ever heard.

I'm bugging, I meant that it was more than six years old. I would say fans are usually equally divided between the two solo albums, not unlike the apparent divide between Flight Brothers fans over Emergency Powers & Cape Verde.

Nah, jus sayin, I never see their music promoted anywhere but here. I didn't get into SCFB until Cape Verde dropped last year.

Music that sounds good, breaks creative and generic boundaries, offers relevant commentary on current issues, and criticizes foreign policy all at once is almost never championed in the blogosphere.

Hold up, what is an essential discography for this dude and all the SCFB shit? I tried sifting through the other thread, but it seems like every other post, there's another release mentioned. Can one of the resident experts just give a quick list of all the great shit these dudes have done? Or at least hook up a link that gives a crash course in their material? 'Cuz those snippets are crazy, can't wait to hear the rest of the tape.

I prefer the reissue (huge leap in sound quality plus Gasoline>>>) but I do think that leaving Dirge off was a big mistake by Backwoodz.

Image

released in '03, Camouflage was billy's debut album. Long out of print, it was finally reissued in '09.

Image

released in '04, billy's sophomore album The Chalice is my favorite album he's put out. I prefer it slightly over Camouflage, but it seems that most fans rate Camouflage higher.

Image

This Dr. Monokrome album was a a 2 disc joint from '05 that featured one disc from woods's future partner Priviledge and another from Woods and his former rhyme partner Thrill Gates (who now doesn't rap).

Image

also released in '05 the Reavers was a super group billy formed with Kong, Spiega, AKIR, Hasan Salaam, Priviledge, Keith Masters, Vordul and others. Highly political, this is the album that first got me into woods back in '05. Great creative MCing, but he cleary stands out.

Image

released in '07, the debut Super Chron album Emergency Powers is highly conceptual. I agree that it is their 2nd best album as a group behind Cape Verde, mainly because of the production isn't as strong as Cape Verde, I prefer his verses on Emergency Powers to the ones on Cape Verde.

Image

released in '09, the second Super Chron album Indonesia was available for free download, or in a deluxe 2 disc version with remixes and instrumentals. It was intended more as an experimental side project with a couple producers they work with, and is a strange listen, but I've grown to love it and it's high points (a song from perspective of a torturer called Sendero Luminoso and a song about the future of African military operations called African Robotics) are really high.

Image

Released last year, Cape Verde was the final Super Chron album. The pre-order also came with a full version of the album totally remixed by several different producers. Booklet that comes with the CD has commentary on every track and is really cool.

Billy's next solo is gonna drop and the end of the year and that pretty much sums up the major releases. There's 4 or 5 mixtapes, 3 of which are posted above.

He was also featured on 5 songs on Vordul's album Megagraphitti and had a great feature on the Invizibl Men album with MarQ Spekt. Both of those albums were released on Backwoodz, as is everything mentioned above. Willie Green who posts here occasionally is their in house producer and Bond who has been making beats for billy since day one has a one-on-one album with billy scheduled to drop after this next solo project.

what? Dirge is on my reissue. It's fanaticism, dead broke (dub plate), Bfgs ft. Vordul Mega, and James Bon Elevators ft. Vordul Mega (Freestyle) that were missing from the reissue.

Here's the song from the perspective of the torturer-
<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QS777YgM3Xs?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QS777YgM3Xs?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

And this song The Party wasn't on a woods album (it was on compilation from Nasa's uncommon records) but it might be my favorite woods song.

<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pk0p0QLszCM?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pk0p0QLszCM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

If those two don't make you :ohsh: :ohsh: :ohsh: ...

My favorite of many collabs between billy and Vordul off of the Terror Firma album-
