and right now Poachers is making a strong run at my high point (still trailing Tinseltown and Central Park at the moment). Can't wait to talk to woods about that one.

Gilgamesh & Lucre round out the top 5. In a few years woods' discog will be unfuckwittable.

Gilgamesh. All day.
I haven't read the manga 'Gilgamesh' - could someone explain why billy chose that name?

I'm sure this'll come up in bengi's interview, but block, this is killing me and I have to know: the dialogue w/ that transit worker - is that a convo that you or woods personally recorded or is it sampled from something? Somebody called it perfectly earlier in this thread, I get anxious every time the song ends. I think it's the guy's nonchalance in describing the scene -- "your balls are facing the wrong way" -- that makes it so horrifying. It's also maybe the most NY shit I've ever heard.

It'd definitely make for a more effective PSA than this:

It's actually from taxi cab confessions. It's brutal.

Anyone notice the needle drop guy says, "Heavy trap influences" at least once in every single review he does? This white nigga needs to cop a thesaurus.

If you have 20 minutes to spare today, check out my track for track interview with billy woods about Dour Candy. Dude is just as interesting to talk to as his music is to listen to. Ton of interesting stuff I had to edit out and it was still 8 pages long-

If somebody came to me I would 100% do that. What I really want to do is do a 4 or 5 song EP with Lil Ugly Mane, if he gave me 5 beats, that’s all I would need… If I had 5 Ugly Mane beats, it would inspire different things than if I had 5 Aesop Rock beats, I want 5 of both of those people’s beats by the way
:ohsh: one of you southern folks, make this happen.

Figured you'd like that part, shit would be crazy...woods over Aesop beats too. woods is super, super excited about the album with Elucid though. Feels it's his best work. Some people are telling him he should hold off on releasing it, but he says it's done and he wants to get it out there this year, and then take next year off. He's eager to tour more as well, I'd love to see him on tour with Aesop.

He also said he wasn't talking about a gypsy cab on "Hack", it was just a dealing/cab metaphor. So I got that one right, but clearly fucked up on the "Pro Wrestling" interpretation. "Gilgamesh" and "Poachers" were really cool to talk about, still don't fully understand them, but they've definitely become my two favorites.

Thanks, he obviously puts way more into his songs than I can sum up, so I just tried to highlight the stuff that was the most interesting to me and the most relevant to the format. The Trujillo story was the best.

Could you upload the unedited interview?
I would love to read the whole thing.

I didn't save the unedited version, sorry. Here's a few notes though-

We talked quite a bit about other MC's- Aesop Rock, MF DOOM, Ka, Roc Marci (he's a big fan of them all, in the case of DOOM everything pre-DangerDoom). He said he'd love to tour more (I'd love to see him open for Aesop personally). He gave Willie Green a ton of credit for the success he's been having the last few years. He felt Elucid really forced him to step his game up and rewrite some verses since they started working together. He loved working with Blockhead, said he was really easy to work with. The childhood friend he talked about in the "Manteca" part of the interview was the same friend that he talks about in the song "Maryland" from The Chalice.

thanks! That's some good stuff (especially the Manteca/Maryland thing). He already talked a lot about DOOM in previous interviews so that's okay. Would have loved to read how he talks about Aes, though. But then again he also did that in previous interviews.

Him opening for Aes would be the greatest thing ever.
