Ox:2010 a Street Odyssey

Post by krylonjukie »

He's back...

I am not sure if this album is :roper: or not yet. On first listen this song does remind me of some Can Ox era Vast...'Nomad' is the name of this song.

My friend Kount Fif did a lot of the production on this album, so I can only hope that it is good. :killacam: He's the guy at the very beginning of this video 'Sour Diesel'....

Personally I like both of theses tracks but I may be a little biased because my boy is involved. So, what does :phila: think???

The nomad track is not awful. Not really good, either.

his raps are way cooler when he's being less direct with his approach. he's also not a solo artist, sh1t gets boring real fast midway into his 2nd verse of every track if he's the only dude on it.

Vast sounds better on "Nomad" than he's sounded in years...maybe even a decade.

He sounds more like that on the second song.
On the first I got the feeling he may have actually written those verses prior to getting to the studio and smoking 4 blunts.

http://www.2dopeboyz.com/2011/05/31/vas ... rdul-mega/

lost me at 'we were only meant for supreme, alphabet soup'

i still enjoy old can ox, had a lot of fun when we did that comp a lil while a go, but jsut can't take any new vast aire material seriously. even when he's not horrible

the funny thing is, take off vast aire and this magically transforms into a solid reakwon/voldul mixtape cut. anybody wanna make that edit?

Yep. Also, it seems to be like his content and delivery are stale as shit on this, not as fresh on Cold Vein. But maybe it was the beats covering it up.

I think that it's just not all that new to anyone...Vast has a bit of a gimmicky quality. Agreed? :killacam:

that's the whole point, he ran his style into the ground until it became a selfparody

Vast reminds me of Jeru in that they both came out the box with a really fresh and new style that no one had really heard before. But , while the old stuff remains dope, they never really progressed in their work. They seemingly got stuck in a style ,while trying to dub shit down a little. All those ignorable flaws of their earlier work became glaring as they moved ahead.

the thing with vast on ox was, that a lot of those rhymes, were worked and reworked over a 4 or 5 year period, possibily even longer, I had only known him from around 95 or 96. Now it seems like he has this mad libs approach. almost a template of a rhyme and then plugs in street reference, movie reference, ancient art reference, tv reference, video game reference, a few slang terms for weed, and some over dubs. the ox verses were painstakingly crafted. The majority of his new stuff does not appear to be. Though Nomad seems to have a bit more of that old vast flare.

I dunno...vordul has changed a lot since this:
<object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wrUkzK0s_sc?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wrUkzK0s_sc?fs ... n_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

But he's also been through a ton of real shit that I'd assume has had an effect on him as a rapper and as a person.
That said, I'm always down to peep some new Vordul shit. His style somehow has remained intriguing to me, even if it has declined a bit over the years.
