Texas Rap Thread (New, Old, & Appreciation)

Post by vinylpops »

I've been revisiting all my old Texas albums and checking in with the new ones, so I figured the Bay Area thread could use a brother.

I always thought Killa Kyleon was one of the most slept on from Houston, and even though I'm late, this is without a doubt one of the best rap mixtapes from this year (ft. Wiz Khalifa, Big KRIT, Curren$y, Z-Ro, ESG, etc.):

I mentioned in another thread how it was a shame that there were no Mike Dean threads on the :phila: , so I'm appreciating...

I had no idea that he has been working with Kanye for so long
Mike Dean is an American hip-hop producer. He is known for pioneering the "Dirty South" sound in the 1990s, particularly in work for artists from Rap-A-Lot Records. Mike has most notably worked alongside Scarface of the Geto Boys, 2Pac, Do or Die, Tha Dogg Pound, Yukmouth of the Luniz, Outlawz, C-Bo, Nate Dogg, Tech N9ne, UGK, Z-RO, Devin the Dude and others, producing, mixing and mastering many hits and multi-platinum albums.

In terms of Texas appreciation, I'll start with Big Moe... be back with Mike Dean produced bangers.

I want to peep that Blac Monks album. I remember hearing like "wtf" and not checking it out again. Kind of want to re-visit to see why I slept on it.

Should be an awesome thread.

There was a big Texas vs. Vanderslice Mike Dean debate a while back in one of the Greatest Producers Ever things. Stupid shit.

Ive said on the blog a couple times that Killa Kyleon is the best rapper in Houston right now. Natural Born Killa is probably my favorite mixtape of 2011. Dude is on another plane.

A great as Mike Dean is and as much classic and monumental shit he's been apart of for decades, it wasn't until Kanye where Dean finally started receiving his props and luckily for him, his proper paycheck.

The best song anyone has ever put me onto via this forum is when Rey uploaded PSK-13's No Ordinary Aggin EP with this masterpiece on it :

Am I the only one who thinks Trae's latest album is one of the best 2011 discs out there? No one does emo or gangsta like him IMO. Thought about making a thread for it but I guess anyone who heard it is checking for this thread.

Pretty bored with Trae at this point. Didn't even check his new one out.
