Word, sucks that by no fault of either of yours, the two of you ended up asking a lot of the same questions...

For what it's worth, I think your intro piece provides a great framework...

I really don't want to be "that" guy but if someone would be so kind as to pm me a link for both or either one of his albums i would be forever grateful.

Thanks - I lost a lot of the audio (DAMN APPS!) so I had to recreate a lot of it from my notes - so I missed a few jewels. I have some other notes I didn't include so I might do another follow-up piece.

He's a good guy though. Very humble and had a lot of positive shit to say about other rappers and artists. Definitely not a holier than thou type. Just happy that he's getting a little praise and eager to keep working.

you did a good job with that, very thorough writeup

i'm in a similar spot now, did an interview and audio completely fucked up, got about 5 usable minutes out of an hour. been trying to squeeze something from it for 2.5 weeks now based on very haphazard notes.

ka is a great interview subject, dude is very approachable and talks in nonstop quotables. to be entirely honest, i kinda feel like we all got good writeups from talking to him not specifically because of our writing skills but because of him just being a good dude to talk to

Yeah I was lucky in that I took the best notes I could just because I had fear that something might go wrong. The audio totally sucked. We talked for an hour and I had 12 minutes of truncated audio (it's literally random 10 second snippets from random points throughout the conversation). I also wrote it up immediately afterward so that I would remember as much as possible. As time goes on I find it really hard to rebuild a conversation.

But on the positive side, your situation sounds better than the time Tame One got pissed off and hung up on me because I asked him too many "have you ever smoked crack?" "how much embalming fluid..." types of questions too early in the interview and quickly turned into a pretty hostile situation.

Ka's definitely a great interviewee, probably partly because it's pretty new to him and he's still in that phase where he gets geeked off the fact that people are interested in what he's doing. He's definitely not in "I've already answered that question 3 times this week mode" yet. Your interview with him and the video piece were both excellent by the way. I referenced it a few times in my conversation with him.

That shot at 1:40 is dope. Like a play on Google Earth - roundabout reference to satellite surveillance?

Yeah, I mean, I've been up for almost 2 days so this how my mind starts operating at this point.

That shot definitely reminds me of Google Earth though when you're on the street level and you rotate 360. Guess it wouldn't be "satellite" but you know what I mean... surveillance in general. "This gon' me the summer they come for me?" evokes that feeling of being watched. I said roundabout because it wasn't a direct connection and because the camera was rotating in a circle and because I'm stupid nice with the words yo.

Ka's not a conspiracy theorist in my estimation. So I don't think it's satellitish - but you may be on to something with surveillance. The amount of police surveillance on corners in NY has gone up 1000 fold in the last decade. Not sure that's what he's going for there, but it's not an unreasonable guess.

I posted a couple of pieces from yesterday's interview that didn't fit neatly into yesterday's "Making of" piece. If anybody's interested, it's a real quick read.

Regardless of the meaning or lack thereof, did that shot really not bring Google Earth to anyone else's mind? Go on Google Maps, zoom to street level and spin around at an intersection.

It did. Although I think of that more as google maps street level than google earth (which is top down, right?)

Decided to start to write some reviews for my buddy's blog, a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be, but it was a lot of fun to put this first one together-
