Q-Tip Signs to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music, Working With Fiona Apple and Kendrick Lamar
New album out next year
By Carrie Battanon April 11, 2012 at 09:40 a.m.

Q-Tip is putting to paper his long-time collaborative partnership to Kanye West, officially joining the G.O.O.D. Music team. G.O.O.D. and Def Jam will put out his fourth solo album-- tentatively titled The Last Zulu-- at some point early next year. It follows up his 2009 record Kamaal the Abstract. Perhaps this means we'll see Q-Tip on the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music group album, too.
Here's another exciting factoid: A press statement says Q-Tip's been in the studio with a number of artists, among them Kendrick Lamar and... Fiona Apple. Consider our ears perked.
Thought this was interesting, seems like a good move for Tip.

Yeah Tip's solo catalogue is still building up nicely. Renaissance was the shit.

Seems like a good fit for him. Contemporary rap music is his lane.

the last thing a Q Tip album needs is a bunch of Good Music dicks talking generic rap shit all over his tracks. One of the reasons Renaissanace was so good was that it was realtively unhyped and seemed to be Tip doing what he wanted.

If they leave to him do his own thing it'll be cool, if every studio session, video shoot and demo is leaked to every blog on an hourly basis in the run to the release it'll be shit.

Maybe some of those tracks he was meant to be doing with Common will materialise on this though.

Q-tip could have been considered a musical genius on some Rick Rubin/Jon Brion shit if he would put down the mic after Amplified and just produced. Big Sean is not going to help the quality of his music.

truth is sprinkled liberally on this serving of words

I heard some shit that Nasty Nas was also recently added to The Standard group with Common and Q-Tip... making it not only possibly the best group ever... but also the most LEAST LIKELY dream to come true out of all the wishful thinking projects that have fallen from the sky.

Q-Tip makes great sense on GOOD Music... but Kanye's ego needs to not get in the damn way of Tip making his type of rap music.

hip hop culture needs to follow Jonathan Davis more than he needs to follow hip hop culture. I don't want to hear Q-Tip doing some dumbed down well-produced Southern pandering funky mess like 'Mercy', just need Tip to make the good music that is not in the mix right now. Just make the logical creative next step after 'The Renaissance', with whatever adventurous vibes the concept of 'The Last Zulu' may inspire. Hell, bring Afrika Bambaataa on it for some futuristic dancey shit, why not?

sure, let Kanye provide the executive producer budget... but DON'T let him make all the creative direction decisions. a couple beats and one or two verses is cool, but that's enough. Q-Tip has enough other good ideas he can create.

bring in Outkast, Cee-Lo, Nas, Black Thought/The Roots, Drake, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, maybe even Prince... do something real special.

It's the right move for Q-Tip in 2012 no doubt, I was glad to hear it.... But like someone pointed out, Tip doing beats for Big Sean and some of them lesser dudes on the label just by association is too bad. HE GOTTA EAT THO

Q Tip may get a check for producing or helping produce whatever, but when it comes to his solo album, it will come from his heart with no outside interference. The dude is really a tremendous artist. Kanye takes notes from Tip, not the other way around. Not saying Kanye is not a genius in his own right, because we all know he is, but Tip is that dude on the boards. Plus he has the balls and brains to do what he wants, and do it well. The Renaissance was amazing.

I like this news. Tip is the original Jay Elec when it comes to releases though. The Last Zulu was supposed to drop this year. Don't hold your breath on the tentative release "year".

The Fiona Apple news is heartening. Perhaps another video featuring her anorexia/attempted eroticism will stir a generation to remember the confounding dilemma of her sexuality and its effect on their genitals. An erection half-formed, better than none at all, I'd wager.
