:didntread: but lupe takes himself way too seriously and to produce such underwhelming music considering his talents, plus the fact he has been known to act like a queer makes me not give a fuck about him.

dude lost all his cred when he called I Gave You Power crap, but this is an impressive bit of shitty journalism
The whole thing is an impressive exercise in mansplaining. Its hook goes, "Bitch bad, woman good, lady better," which sounds sweet and all, but does any female want to be called "a lady"?

I was thinking about starting a Tumblr (The Icesickluminati: The 7 Day Theory) to catalog all of Sodeberg's opinions/thoughts. One person having that many stupid opinions/ideas is fascinating to me for some reason. A recent favorite is that Louie is a shitty TV show because it's misogynistic "Bro" humor.

Soderberg and Lupe are made for each other in hack heaven.

I remember years ago I got into some kind of back and forth argument with him in a comment thread on OhWord and out of exasperation he threatened to revert to his "lower middle class upbringing" and kick our asses if we didn't stop making fun of him.

All silliness aside, Soderberg is short on ideas and even shorter on skills to present his thoughts clearly. This is just bad, sloppy, etc.:

The idea for the blackface sequences is swiped from Spike Lee's brilliant 2000 movie Bamboozled, but that movie literally explains in the its opening moments, that it is a satire. Spike Lee was reducing ugly mainstream representations of blackness to absurdity. The conceit of the movie is that if the standards get low enough and the American public were allowed to eat it up, TV could easily turn into a genuine "coon show." Lupe and Gil Green, by suggesting a video thug or a video chick are exactly the same as someone performing in blackface, add nothing to the discussion. It sure does seem powerful though, doesn't it?

it's hard to pick out the best (worst) but this one is a personal favorite.

http://www.spin.com/blogs/can-we-stop-p ... ut-50-cent
The history of hip-hop is predicated upon someone doing something that somebody else told them they weren't allowed to do. At the beginning, it was idyllic mythmaking stuff like turning a turntable into a musical instrument and scratching the damn records. Then, it's N.W.A and other rappers deciding that violent lyrics no longer have to be a metonym for mad skills and can mean actually murdering people. When Nas cherry-picked the finest producers from his city and sculpted a classic, bending the one-rapper-one-producer rule, it was a bit of a cheat. So was Puff Daddy and friends sampling the most obvious hits with little panache. And, the 50 Cent of his 50 Cent Is The Future mixtape era, rapping over other peoples' beats and talking unprecedented levels of shit, was too.
I don't even know where to start with this...

my favorite to this day is his ohword Return Of The Mac review which inexplicably dovetails into a discussion of how Godfather is pure fantasy that says nothing while Superfly is a neo-realistic masterpiece which accurately describes the heart of the american dream (based mostly on the final shot where the flag is shown over the ny skyline)

Oh shit the 50 post!

In the past year son has wrote how he's mad at "anti hipster, struggle-obsessed" people making out that every "street rap doofus has something interesting to say" amongst many other similar, ahem, euphamisms for shit he don't like. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

killer mike makes roughly the same argument as brandon but far more cogently in 140 characters:

Honestly, him trying to make "phoney baloney", "dopey" and other cringeworthy twee insults happen is far worse than any of the ridiculous opinions.

lmao at the lupe fans coming out in the comments

lol @ openly mocking 50 cent and nicki minaj (lol at sodeberg not even referring to the pink-wigged, scantily-clad chick as an obvious metaphor for nicki minaj)

pontifical lupe blows. i can't stand a preachy motherfucker, especially if his 'sermons' lead to his making more scrilla. fuck conscious lupe.

clever lupe is pretty fun though. gold watch/go go gadget flow/etc. are cool to listen to and have some replay value. everything else he does (overly conscious shit/genre-bending shit) BLOWS.

Best parts when she got especially mad in the comments she referenced Captain Save A Ho, unless Ive the etymology wrong.

This shits probably more entertaining for people who actually listen to Lupe songs, idk.
