G-Side Calls It Quits
Sucks... easily one of the top 2-3 rap groups that were still making music at a high level. The world needs more rap groups like them. I like them both, but I don't think I'll be as interested in either of them as solo artists honestly, but I will check the material nonetheless.

Re: G-Side Calls It Quits
ST is good solo, but they were at their best together, with Block Beattaz production. Clova is pretty hopeless solo I think, the majority of these new Lambo Music Group (lol/smh/fail) tracks are atrocious.
I doubt they'll get anywhere near as far by themselves as they could've gotten as a group. With that said, they undermined themselves in a lot of ways too. The singing shit and forced attempts at crossover songs on the last 2 albums did them no favors. They also somehow managed to turn themselves from a mythical entity to something fans took for granted within a very short period of time.
The real follow up to HSV International should've sounded like combined best from Island and Cohesive, with no fucking Chris Lee or bland garbage like Luv 2 Hustle.

Re: G-Side Calls It Quits
up until last month, i didn't know that Block Beattaz consists of about 10 producers.
Sucks that they quit, but hopefully ST will keep on rapping.

Plus the trademark everyday 9-5er earnestness gradually turning from charming to irritating and the incessant meta blog references/internets talk in general-"im gonna click 'x' on your tab". I had already lost a lot of faith in them tbh.

Re: G-Side Calls It Quits
I pretty much agree on ST 2 Lettaz and Clova breakdown. 2 Lettaz has some promise as a solo artist, but to be honest to me G-Side was always a whole being greater than the sum of it's parts thing to me. I feel like he needs someone to play off of, and I can see him carrying individual songs, but I'm not sure about a whole album. That said, I remember feeling that way about Big Boi and obviously I was serious wrong there.
I love a lot of the free music that comes out in today's no money in music world, but the death of the rap group is something that I just can't really deal with in the same way. I mean I get it, a little money split two ways (after Block Beataz get their cut) probably isn't sustaining them, but the reality is that they are probably the most successful rap group of the modern era, right? I've been trying all day to think of anybody else in that category and can't think of anything (I'm probably overlooking somebody obvious, but I can't think of anybody honestly). For them to say they couldn't cut it financially despite the fact that they've turned down major label deals (which I'm sure were shitty) is just sad to me.
I don't necessarily hate "Luv 2 Hustle" and stuff like that, but I hear you on some of the poor decisions - neither of their albums last year hit with the same force as some of their earlier work, but they were still pretty damn good albums in my opinion. And I can't knock them for trying to make some crossover attempts. Whether staying independent or going major I think they probably felt they had to have some "hits" to drive their sales, shows, etc. They're not as good at making music like that, and that's probably ultimately a big part of their downfall, but I can't knock them for trying. As far as the point about people taking them for granted pretty quickly I think that's true. I think it comes from the more frequent release of projects over the last year and the slightly declining quality and vision of the products. At the same time, it's hard to fault a group for trying to put out two albums at opposite ends of one year in today's climate where you have rappers dropping 3 mixtapes and an EP and an album on a yearly basis.

BWare, by modern era you mean groups that only made their debut in the last 5-6 years right? Cause otherwise Roots and Cunninglinguists and all that...

Travis Porter. A handful of hits, a Youtube account with millions of views and a major label album this year.B. I feel the need to add that Ballin' still needs to be a single and that Wobble is the only good rap song Diplo has ever produced.

Re: G-Side Calls It Quits
In 2012 being a massive rap group on a major label doesn't mean much. I can't say I've heard anything by them. I am vaguely aware of them by seeing some news items and their chart ranks- which, FWIW, in 2012 means this massive group has moved 36,000 units in 14 weeks and currently doing about 600/week and dropping.ackbar wrote:travis porter are pretty massive. no idea how u could not have heard them before

I guess they could have millions of youtube views and apparently they have a few r&b singles, but I don't listen to that shit.

Block Beattaz kinda fell off anyway. They got way too regular.
