this song might be annoying because it's nine minutes (or because Macklemore doesn't actually RHYME in half the lyrics) but the thing that's a thousand times more annoying is WHITE PEOPLE GETTING AWAY WITH SHIT LIKE MURDER, CORRUPTION, SEXUAL ABUSE, COLLUSION, EXTORTION, EXPLOITATION, ETC. because of institutionalized white privilege and nobody can do much about it.

I'm assuming Jamila Woods is black? and if so, having a token black person sing some tacked-on outro on your song about white privilege is... could you maybe not? mmmkay thanks

he goes farther than MOST white people do as far as taking some responsibility and being aware of things, but he also doesn't go ALL the way and pledge to absolve himself of using his now-enormous white privilege.

I don't care how rich, how cheesy, how pandering, how misguided, how convenient or how insincere it might look. ANY WHITE MAN SAYING HALF THIS SHIT ON A RECORD IS WORTHY, VALID AND IMPORTANT TO THE CULTURE OF HIP HOP.

the fact that the biggest white male pop-rap sensation since maybe Vanilla Ice (I won't put Eminem in this category) is making a humongous statement about white supremacy (when he EASILY could have forgotten the original song exists and totally not do a sequel) is commendable, and it's a conversation that EVERYONE in hip hop has to have.
