Tha Connection (Hus & SmooVth) from Hempstead, LI

Post by Versive »

What's the :phila: think of these cats? Hus reminds me of Roc Marc a little bit (he's the 2nd MC on the song below) and in fact they've both worked with him several times over the last few years.

Don't let Wicked's endorsement dissuade you. Their discography is pretty thorough and they definitely have a great ear for beats.

Anyway, I bring them up because both members released projects in March (on digicrates as usual for them).

Smoovth's Treasures is a lost tapes-type compilation: http://digicrates.bandcamp.com/album/treasures

And Hus teamed with another LI MC named Rozewood to release the free Tokyo Tower Mixtape.

Huge fan of these cats and the Roc comparisons are only natural. I love the vibe they put out but I feel they have already peaked. I know Gloss featured them on one of the early versions of "Sounds Like The 90s"

Was introduced to these guys thanks to Sounds Like The 90s when their song "Take It Higher" was featured. I still play it pretty frequently.

I like the stuff Versive posted and I'll continue to check for 'em.

I think they are both dope but I prefer SmootVh's voice and delivery, "Treasures" is dope.

that Miedlev beat on Take it Higher is crack, Hus has gotten a little better over time but I feel they did peak with Trapeze & Moon Water. Still they always come dope and have great beat selection

I'm a fan of their older stuff too, but Strive: The Album, which is available for free at http://digicrates.bandcamp.com/album/strive-the-album, features some of their best work IMO.

Their 2009 release Universal Dominance is also available for free: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Tha_Connection/

I'm pretty sure I've heard everything except 12bit's Stranded on a Strange Planet, which has 11 early tracks by them on it. Anybody got that?

New mixtape I just mentioned dropped.

Worth checking if only for Roc's drops. Not since Miles Davis penned his autobiography has someone used the word "motherfucker" with such authenticity and authority.

SmooVth appeared on Halftime Radio last night. Rozewood called in. Both of them freestyled. Mike Raw from The UN called in also, alluded to a new UN project coming soon, announced a solo mixtape coming on Digi Crates.

Hus got a solo, some decent stuff on here. Dude still sounds like a Roc Marci and/or Willie The Kid derivative but he's improving

Nice to see someone other than me bumping this thread. [bumps thread]

Hus has dropped a bunch of dope shit this year:
http://www.longislandrap.com/2014/10/hu ... y-roc.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.longislandrap.com/2014/09/hu ... taper.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.longislandrap.com/2014/05/hu ... eship.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looking forward to checking that new. Hopefully there are less recycled vocals this time. Dude needs to stop that.

I think I would feel these dudes more if they weren't riding and biting Roc so tough............He's polished with that "talking rather than spitting" on beats style. These cats not so much.
