Albums You Passionately* Loathe That Everyone Jizzes Over

*Doesn't necessarily require passionate hate; moderate to lukewarm hate is acceptable

I'll start:

Never understood the slack-jawed praise this jawn received.

I never used to understand the hype about Tricky. (i know it's not rap, but work with me)

"Pre-Millenial Tension" was a great album title... but I don't remember caring about much he made

hella overrated beats for the most part to me :megaman:

At one point itd kinda grown on me but minus Takeover, U Don't Know (BP2 has the superior remix anyhow), All I Need, Izzo, maybe Heart of the City and at a push the title track, its just great production and Jay phoning it in with strategic "rappers have feelings too" mawkish shite. Whole album feels calculated, like post-NY indie attempt to get credibility from broadsheets/teh underground, its his Stakes Is High(not trying to start that again) or a weak Mama Said Knock You Out.

Song Crys one of the worst songs Ive ever heard and when hes corny theres no one cornier than Jay. The great thing about Jay prior was disaffected cocky swag, not trying to sound like one of the plebs. Telling two songs off Blueprint 2 that shit on this album, Poppin Tags and Sisters & Bitches, are a departure and hes outshined on one of those. Hola Hovitos good at a party actually but still.

+ Carter I & II and Im a Wayne fan, or was at least.

Co sign Any Slum Village record as well as Black star. They're both incredibly boring albums
I'll add
Black on Both sides
Lethal Injection (didn't realize it was so beloved before reading it here though)

Does anyone like Black On Both Sides these days?

Fairly sure anyone who like early Kanye albums cos hes "relatable"/more human etc than other rappers is either racist or heavy into nerdcore or some shit too. He had a few joints on them though, I still play Drive Slow, Cant Tell Me Nothing and Gone.

Good call on Black Starr, actually 96% of all Rawkus release now that I think about it.

Roc-A-Fella stuff too.

TONS of people swear by that fucking album...it's insane.
As for Kanye, I think I'm alone in this but his first album is by far my favorite of all his albums. "College dropout" is flawed but it's got some amazing moments on it.

It's like that immediately pre-Nagchampa contingent that still prays to it in 2013.

I don't really understand the backlash. I get the feeling people are caught up in loathing (for whatever misplaced reason) the whole "conscious" "backpacker" movement it embodied and furthered, but it's got great beats and rhymes throughout.

Mos' verse on "Respiration" is one of my favorite verses.

What's Nagchampa?

There's my issue. It's possibly one of the most boringly produced albums I've ever heard. Respiration is probably the best track on it and if you heard that instrumental without rapping on it, you'd turn it off after 30 seconds.

I actually have that instrumental... different strokes I guess. I just really don't hear anything bland or boridng about it. Sure, the beats are mostly laid back jazzy loops, but it's far from the Kenny G easy-listening session everyone around here claims it is.

I don't loathe it but "life after death" is a 24 song long album with maybe 7 good cuts. RIP to a great rapper and all but people need to chill with how much the praise that album. Woulda been a classic EP though...

X2. I like plenty of allegedly similar shit from that era myself but Mos never live up to his promise and Kwelis just a bad rapper. BOBS productions meh alright but I dont even think Mos did Mathematics justice.

Biggies a way better writer on the second album, funnier too.

LW is an intersting case. I don't loathe it by any means but I don't understand why certain people put it so high on the pedestal, and why these same people usually knock HHNF. It has some GREAT songs, but out of the 15 tracks 3 are different versions of Grinding.
