Not thrilled with him producing. His best work is usually when he allows others like Automator, Ray West, Kutmaster Kurt or G. Don handle the beats. Shit looks like Spankmaster with tons of guest spots.

I wonder if that's an old god don verse or if it's new, I thought he retired from rap...

Anyone got a DL link to this?

The G. Don jawn is one of the best tracks off here. Like the Mac Mall too and that Halloween inspired collabo with Slug is nice too. The other collabos seem to be mad awkward and uninspiring.

Answers to this and other questions will be in an upcoming interview. (Keith says it's new and that Don didn't want to do it at first.) Side note, GD's free jazz project is the shit: https://soundcloud.com/the-open-mind" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hmmm no doubt. Please be sure to post that interview once it's completed.

Spankmaster was produced by Esham and it's aged incredibly well. One of my favorites, at least top 5 Keith solo.

Also, Keith is a pretty seasoned producer in his own right. He co-produced First Come, First Served with Kutmaster Kurt and contributed beats to the Black Elvis album. This too is addressed in said interview. A better reference point for this new album would be Marci Beaucoup.

Once you catch on to keith's sound, his beats are pretty damn good. Also, his production style has aged well.

I couldn't listen to Kool Keith now. Used to love the shit in the early 2001ish when spankmaster came out. Cool story bros?ok I used to sell crack to an old man in Richmond back then that swore he was Kool Keith's uncle. Had a bunch of stories of when he was young including one where he got high with him and Keith totally flipped out on some taking all his clothes off in a room full of people shit. Old man was very convincing but who fucking knows with crack heads. He would try to get a discount lolz I was like get him on the phone and I'll throw you one. But ofcourse he didn't have a phone.

i got to see him and Esham and NATAS perform at the new orleans house of blues in 2001.
word is that trent reznor was in attendance, also.

probably the best kool keith show i've been to, considering he wasn't given free reign to his set time; i've seen him do 2 hour
sets that tend to get boring (once in NYC in 2006, once in new orleans again, maybe 2013?)

this was back when Evil E was his tour DJ, and he still threw out porno mags, capri suns and chicken wings during the show.

also, that show was a one-off. the rest of their spankmaster tour was really just their vans warped tour dates.

also, if i remember correctly, i had a friend who ran his own ftp server, that had spankmaster in mp3 at least 3 months before it hit retail.
