hard to pick between Ka and Danny Brown. woods and spekt for 3rd and 4th in no particular order

anybody who picks Joey from that list should be banned. he's not the worst rapper ever but he's retard-status compared to most the rest

Quelle Chris has two projects this year that are both better than Old.

So no.

woods, Open Mike Eagle, and Ka in that order. Spekt and Danny Brown round out the top 5.

OME has been rising up the list for a while now. It was tough to put him ahead of Ka, but his range and versatility are the difference.

OME has clearly stepped it up to a whole new level. Him and Bus stand out on Dorner v Tookie, not like everyone else is weak just they are that good. Sir Rockabye is his best project so far. Whatever he does next is going to be a problem.

do you not like old? i love all three albums, not sure i'd say either of Quelle's albums is better than Old though. i was disappointed when i saw Quelle didn't have a beat on Old though. his stuff would have been perfect for side a

It's good but not very cohesive to me. The bigger issue is that it hasn't had a lot of replay for me, maybe its been too much other dope shit out but I just haven't felt motivated to go back to it very much. Quelle's shit has stayed in rotation. Could change though, it's still early.

i agree with the cohesiveness complaint, quelle's albums are definitely much better with that. i almost would have liked old better as two seperate EPs. as is, i tend to listen to side a and b seperately

but both sides being together is kinda the point of the exercise, thematically speaking. i agree that they they sit awkwardly together for practical listening purposes, i myself deleted most of the second half because it's just not my cup of tea. but the core narrative that Old tries to convey is rooted in the two sides being paired, on several levels. that juxtaposition paradoxically makes the album and undoes it at the same time.

and for the purposes of this thread specifically, it's gotta be said that Brown's rapping, regarding of production style, is equally good on both sides.

yeah that's true, i get it. still, two EPs put out within a short period of time with similar titles would probably get the same point across. i guess it doesn't really matter though. My computer split them in two perfectly. Magic.

i might actually like side b more than side a. i can listen to side a straight through while side b has a couple songs that usually i skip. side b is so much different than anything else i've heard recently though. between that and the high energy level, i find myself going back to it more

lol brown's album was purposefully split into side a and side b via tracklist. first song is called side a, 11th is side b.

it's worth hearing as intended at least once to get an idea of what he was going for. but knowing your general tastes i doubt you'll find some grand revelation in the intended format that you missed out on by doing it your way

i remember when i got perma banned from HHI when i questioned them putting illogic as the #2 greatest emcee of all time or something absurd.

i pointed out that them being the only place really that you could actually BUY illogic's new album at the time, and the ridiculous, inherent issues with that and was never heard from again. hahaha

then they said if i bought something from the store i could come back...i said, "what's the cheapest thing you got, asshole?" and my HHI career was over.

lol good times
