Mt. Rushmore For All-Time Hip-Hop Producers

Post by msapalicio »

WIth LeBron James making a list of NBA players that he believes to be on the all-time NBA Mt. Rushmore, I thought it would be interesting to make a Mt. Rushmore for all time hip-hop producers. For me personally, in no particular order I would choose Pete Rock, J DIlla, DJ Premier, and Q-Tip. Who do y'all believe should be on this list?

Pharrell, Tyler The Creator, Clams Casino & Childish Major. I can appreciate but I can't respect 100% sample based producers. It takes no talent & is certainly not Rushmore worthy. Give me a real musician.

how about we exalt the original sample producers like bob james and melvin bliss for a change. there should be a mt rushmore for all time soul / jazz musicians. if it wasn't for their ridiculous talent, generosity and lack of business acumen hip hop would not be where it is today.

If you follow the intent of the sculptor who chose the presidents, in which one criterion was a role in "expanding (US) territory" (wiki) then this is a good short list.

kinda surprised alchemist hasn't been mentioned yet.

really depends on what the criteria is. are we talking consistency, longevity, versatility, skillset? Primo and Pete Rock are no-brainers but after that I'd have difficulty deciding who makes the cut. Dilla, Large Pro, Rza, Alchemist, and others would all be in the mix.
