Gave it a fast listen yesterday, and it sounded promising. I like all Pharaoh's shit tho.

Came out already? Crazy how much his buzz has fallen off since 2007 when he released Desire. That last shit he released in 2011 was real weak. Haven't checked him at all since. Will probably give this a listen just based off the fact it's Pharoahe. Good to see that he and Lee Stone did a bunch of the album together.

dude has a good voice and thymes well but the concepts and beats weren't working for my tastes. i went back to listening to ratking.

I actually thought WAR was his best solo.

I think its safe to say, Monch's solo work is up there. Evrn his weakest effort has some great gems.
This new album has him in a more relaxed state that he pulls off well. Need to listen to it some but so far, so good.

It's been a LONG time since I listened to IA, but definitely. I thought Internal Affairs was end-stage Rawkus era trash. Monch's version of the Giancana story. Rapping about "the ass"? I never got the appeal of Simon Says either. Completely boring. The album was watered down wannabe club material at a time when Rawkus was trying to that to every veteran they signed. Totally lacked the creativity of Organized Konfusion apart from 'rape'. I thought Desire was awfully bland too. WAR topped both by having more of the interesting concepts and flows we expect from Monch.

You could say that about maybe 3 of the songs on the album. The large majority of it is in no way at attempt at main stream success. Also, I don't see any comparison between Internal Affairs and the Giacana Story.

But, at the end of the day, to each his own.

If you didnt get the appeal of Simon Says you were probably tired of life by 1999 or never listened to music in a social environment. Or both.

Fair enough and all but no one is really trying to hear some Bulgarian dudes with 4 records in their collection pass comment on a Certified Tunnel Banger.

My favourite track off IA though:

I actually think Internal Affairs only gets better with age. I remember even people who liked it being somewhat disappointed with it as, like much of the rap media referred to it at the time, it seemed "one dimensional" (especially compared to Organized Konfusion's output) but time's been really kind to it, making it a lot more clear that Monch was making a concept record more than anything. I actually think it's aged much better than Black on Both Sides or the Black Star album.

:bunk:

Just because it wasn't Extinction Agenda Pharaohe doesn't mean it was trash.

C'mon, sons.

'Internal Affairs' was actually one of the best examples of "commercial underground rap" that Rawkus ever produced. They failed with mostly everyone else, from Kool G Rap to Shabaam Sahdeeq, but Pharoahe, Mos, and Talib all made some classic shit, unquestionably.

Almost every song on 'Internal Affairs' has something interesting going on or slightly innovative, at least ("Right Here" was the worst track. To me, anyways.)

and this song is fucking magic, to any ears.

only heard the Black Thought song (which is fucking incredible) and the Talib Kweli song (which is okay) on 'PTSD'. Will jam it all soon, just got over a flu :fail:

the second verse of the first song on the album is probably the most creative fucking thing that will happen in hip hop in 2014.

holy fucking shit. 'Times2' is :copy: :ohsh: -> '...tttthiss wwweeekkk theeeyyy fffffiiirred meeee'
