Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
on Common's BE, why did they put the live version of "The Food" instead of the studio version, it always seemed way out of place, the studio version is so much better and wouldve have flowed better as a whole
the live version should have been a bonus cut
the live version should have been a bonus cut

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
Agreed. Before I bought it I dl'd a version that had the studio one instead of the live one so that's out there somewhere.

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
so i listened to Common's new album. it's good and respectable, but it's not GREAT.
i wanted him to make it the modern version of what 'The Infamous' was for Queensbridge or something... really delve into the crime and violence, but he doesn't really touch on it too much. He kinda lets the guests MCs do it, but the guests are really actually sound-alikes to Nicki Minaj and Kanye, which is a little disappointing, as raw sounding as they are
his mind is kinda all over the place, but HE STILL CAN FUCKIN SPIT. that being said: i think this album officially represents the results of what it sounds like when an MC goes Hollywood, and then returns to hip hop. He sounds like he's kinda getting used to this rap thing again on some of the songs... but it's still more creative than 85% of the rap music out in 2014.
He does NOT sample Rakim on the title song 'Nobody's Smiling', which disappointed me, but besides that, he tried his best, all things considered.
You can hear the trouble and confusion and enlightenment and the hope in his soul on this album. I give him propers.

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
Played the whole album start to finish today. It's good.
No real standouts initially but it's consistent throughout.

I must be trippin, aside from a couple tracks I thought this was garbage.
Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
single is interesting....this still sounds like finding forever a bit though...so im like...........probably not as that is when i vowed to stop subjecting myself to the nonsense. i liked be and lwfc though. and i did like some stuff off electric circus.
in hindsight the reason why the dude didnt pop off is kind of obvious. not everybody digs a guy who has zero edge and yet tries to come to the knife fight with a variety of excuses for why his shit wont cut anybody but he still deserves to be on the team

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
i have always thought common needs a whole album produced by the roots
and i have always wondered why nobody else mentions this

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
No rapper needs a whole album produced by The Roots. Especially Black Thought.

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
For me easily his worst album . Would rather listen to electric circus .
Whats with this new trend of deliberately making beats as boring as fuck.

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
Your right . I think I wiped UMC from my mind as I didn't like that either.
Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
Finally got around to checking out the album and it was pretty good. Definitely better than I thought it would be. I liked the beats and Common's wordplay and content were strong as well. The guest features were good for the most part. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Nice remix with a bonus Jay Electronica verse

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
So Jay Electronica is just recycling bits of older songs and piecing them together in new verses nowadays, huh.

Re: Common - Nobody's Smiling
I also like the "blasphemy" line by Jay Elec as well but ya, definitely not his strongest work.

Which older songs specifically?Yohan wrote:So Jay Electronica is just recycling bits of older songs and piecing them together in new verses nowadays, huh.
