I wouldn't say I never liked them, I just never cared that much about their music.

Good point. But, seeing as we're all old and out of it, I assumed we'd list rappers who are technically good but we just aren't personally into.

With the exception of those cute "reunion" tracks with Dre, I don't understand how anyone can really listen to Snoop Dogg post Doggystyle and feel good about themselves.

Co-signed.

I also co-sign the following:

Redman - Okay in small doses but can't carry a full album
Jay Z - GOAT status but overrated, IMO
A Tribe Called Quest/De La Soul - I enjoy some of their music now but never got into them during their prime

Despite my intense hatred towards J.Cole, I'll admit he has made some decent beats. Other than that I see no reason why people show any interest in his music. But yeah, once you've seen his face he instantly becomes an irredeemably abhorred rapper.

Rick Ross is another detestable rapper with a good ear for beats (much better than J.Cole)

Rick Ross had a 3 year run (2009-2011) that was great.

Um, my list:

Tupac
RZA
Mac Dre

I think Blue Carpet Treatment's aged pretty well ten years later.

Kanye - I have never seen / heard the appeal of him as a rapper. Public persona aside, I just cannot get into him vocally.

Eminem - I'm not staunchly anti him, but just never cared for much of his material. I've owned a couple of his 12"s here and there, but that's mostly for the production. He may well be an amazing rapper, but his voice and rhyme style just aren't my thing.

Not sure if these guys qualify as popular, but Talib Kweli, Lupe, Drake etc are just so fucking dry and boring to me.

You're not sure if Drake is popular? Do you live under a rock?

Yes. I live in Australia.

I don't DJ out very regularly these days, and when I do, it's usually at throwback nights / support slots for 90s acts, so I play older Hip Hop. I really don't listen to too much newer stuff, or socialise with people that do. I guess I'm just old.

1. Rawse - It's nuts to me that this dude has been making hits since 2006. I've tried but I just can't get into his music. The beats are good and often great, but I just cannot dig on a whole project or even a whole song unless there are guests. (A few years ago, I bought the God Forgives... album thinking I would finally "get" Ross but realized too late that I had dropped $9.97 for that 3K collabo alone.)

2. Young Thug - I guess I understand the appeal but I do not like Thugga's music. Again, I can get down with a song here & there especially if Thug is guesting on a Gucci track or something but I just can't see it. I know folks on here ride hard (:pause:) for this guy; change my mind & recommend a good track or two that's not "Danny Glover" or "Stoner."

3. Big Sean - This dude just straight up fucking blows.

continued mentions of jcole and big sean in this thread is further proof that pop culture is devil's sophistry. you're educated consumers, you're not supposed to like these turds. their status is artificially inflated by their labels and its myth is propagated by idiots

I think this is true of about 80% of the rappers who have always had more "mainstream" success than their less successful counterparts. The other 20% have a talent and artistic advantage and actually manage to create a unique lane for themselves. I think in general mainstream rappers probably work harder than most who don't find the same success, but the component of finding an image or style that a label wants to push is probably the primary determinant. And some fools just luck into that.

Neither J Cole nor Big Sean would've ever blown up to the level they'd reached if Drake hadn't paved the way and had labels scrambling for artists who fit a similar mold.

Wale is another one I'd throw into this category.

Yeah, those guys are horrific. But most people I know who rate them aren't really Hip Hop heads.
