3 popular rappers you never liked...

Post by Philaflava »

or felt, or appreciated or whatever. just list 3 popular rappers you could do w/o.

1. common

i know he is dope but his voice grinds my nerves and he always sounds like he is whining to me. i own almost all his albums but rarely revisit any of them with the exception of various older tracks.

2. busta rhymes

dope in small small doses. too much for me.

3. odb

unique but wack as hell as a rapper and did not enjoy his solo albums like most of you. he is just your drunk uncle spewing shit on record. except he was prolly funnier and had more personality. give me his guest spots or hooks but keep his solo shit (save BK Zoo).

Go through phases with most rappers where I"ll listen to them for a while then won't come back for a few years, but have never been able to get into Atmosphere. Tried getting into them a few times over the years but never really became a fan.

1. J.Cole - Pretentious douchebag and his permanently annoying fuckface makes him the rapper I hate most.

2. Drake - Is he even a rapper? More like a r&b singer.

3. Lil Wayne - Lil Gremlin with boring flow and raps that rarely rhyme.

A few months ago I would've said Young Thug as well but he's grown on me since (nh). Sure he sometimes sounds like Walter White Jr. making an attempt at rapping after getting high on his daddy's supply, but Thugger doesn't limit himself to tweaker rap. He's also a lot more entertaining, original and versatile than Lil Wayne and he can flow too. Who cares if he dresses like a tranny, many great artists are eccentric.

If we're talking rappers I clearly can see are good but never had any interest in...
Black thought (SORRY GLOSS!)
Kendrick Lamar
Reakwon

To be clear, I don't dislike any of these guys and I don't think they suck. In fact they're all very good rappers. I just don't give a shit about the music the make.

Eminem - Listened to him back in high school but can't get into him now. Also the praise he gets from people who never listen to rap is kind of off putting for me.
2Pac - Same as above
Black Thought - Not a bad call. Don't hate him at all and I listen to a bunch of Roots stuff, but his raps never stay with me for prolonged periods.

Man, it's easy to pick out artists that are popular currently TBH. Could names loads.

As for sacred cows though, I have to say Redman. Same reasoning as Blockhead.

Great thread topic. I could probably name more but here are the first three that come to mind:

Tupac - I think he was ruined for me by the wiggers in high school that tied their bandanas in the front + all the people who didn't listen to rap but liked Tupac. I recognize that he was talented, but I also don't typically like his beat selection. To me his music was more "Rap" than "Hip Hop" if that makes any sense.

Public Enemy - As much as I respect Chuck D, I never really liked his flow/voice and Flava Flav's hypeman ranting was a little bit over the top for me.

Common - I used to delude myself into thinking I liked him. Resurrection is still dope though. Everything after is boring and 'Can I Borrow A Dollar?' is unlistenable because he does that squeaky voice thing.

I mean, is not liking future or J cole that strange? I'm more curious about why people would like them in the first place.

Thread says "popular rappers" not "highly regarded rappers."

JCole and Big Sean are public punching bags but Future is pretty well regarded, I'm an outlier on that one among my friends who actively follow popular modern rap
