Future barely a rapper tho

I swear to god you could put a dying wombat in a studio and these mothafuckas would find a way to make it sound artistic.

"ah yes, Officer Wombles clearly captures the nihilistic scream of life in a perfunctory death rattle of sound. 8.7"

This kinda thing has been done before (here on the forums even I think) and it usually goes something like this. If they had titled this most popular rather than best, that'd be closer to what they're listing here, but that wouldn't have that Complex clickbait ring to it.

And so obviously the way they're doing it makes it much easier to quantify. Partly I think because there's rarely a true and actual public consensus as far as absolute top skill level goes in the more recent years, especially as there continues to be more and more outlets for more and more rappers. Taste starts to divide around the end of the '90s and early 2000s during the rise of Napster and MP3s flooding the internet, even in terms of who is or was paying attention to what.

The illustrations were kinda cool though.

Diddy has had more impact on rap music (indirectly or otherwise) than pretty much anyone else in the last 20 years. That run Bad Boy had in the late 90s/early 00s laid down the blueprint for a lot of things.

Max B and Boosie were both killing shit in 2009.

A couple of the homies were involved in this so I'm not gonna talk shit, but I had to stop reading when they credited Spoonie Gee's Love Rap as a Treacherous 3 song in the 1980 section.

list is mostly for people who'd struggle to name more than 10 rappers that debuted in the 80s though.

I know it's probably too underground for Complex's tastes (and maybe this board's too?), but MF Doom's 2004 is pretty much undeniable.

Look at this thread. Puffy and Nelly are mentioned without a hint of irony. You sig shouts out Drake and you haven't been sonned out of existence. 2016 PF is not 2001 HHI.

Thank fuck

someone listed Mika 9nin9 or however the fuck it's spelt and Breezy Brewin like we're still pretending cramming 19 syllables into one bar = talent.

Drake is better than both of them put together.

Drake single-handedly ended the career of Meek Mill and backed down Common and Jay-Z like it was nothing

Breezy Brewin puffed his chest out on Life's Ill and then collapsed into a nervous breakdown of apologies when Will High called him out for it.

Drake could probably beat up Will High if he wanted yo.
