I met Phife in 2009 at KZSU as I (thankfully) got to the station early that day. I remember trippin when I got there cuz I walk in and turn the corner and BAM, it's Phife standing right there!!! I was like "Oh shit! Phife!" and shook his hand. He was on Kevvy Kev's show with some local MC's from San Jose that he was workin with since he had been living out here in the Bay for 5+ years at the time cuz his wife was from Oakland. #RIPphifedawg

Great to see tributes like this today, Tribe really did have the broadest fan base of probably any hip hop group ever.

That's absolutely true. Even going to high school in the early 00s, I was a little too young to fully appreciate them (and I've never been the biggest fan TBH), but among the kids a year older than me, now that I think about it, the group that was always playing tribe really ran the gamut from hardcore hip-hop devotees to long hairs and hipster types. Phife's presence definitely helped hold it down for the former, I suspect.

Loved seeing the Mets show love and spect on social media today too.
