Post by Philaflava »

I'm trying to get caught up.

I know about The Impossible Kid and OME's Hella Personal, what else?

nothing ordered or definitive, just thinking of the ones that I enjoyed enough to play more than once:

Kevin Gates - Islah
Payroll Giovanni & Cardo - Big Bossin Vol 1
WestSideGunn - Flygod (this got old pretty fast tho)
Kodak Black - Lil Big Pac
Currensy & Alchemist - Carlton Heist
YG - Still Brazy
Bentley - Street Knowledge
Vic Spenser & Chris Crack - Who The Fuck Is Chris Spencer
Chris Crack - Last of the lean

the Schoolboy Q album is supposed to be very good

the new Maxo Kream tape that just came out is very good

Elucid's Save Yourself was dope but oddly I enjoyed the little 16 minute pre-album ep/mix thing more

all the stuff Boozie put out this year is solid, there's been like 3 or 4 tapes now I think

Been liking every Kanye album since MBDTF, so this is nothing new/shouldn't necessarily color your perception of my list.

Nah I'm a fan of that album for sure. I just forgot to mention it. It's extremely solid.

This is my other favorite album of the year, but I didn't even include it because I (wrongly) assumed there was no chance anyone here would dig it. I stand corrected.

Don't listen to this expecting to hear dope lyrics or even interesting flows. Dean Blunt is not a good rapper, but he does his thing and it's amazing music.

It's been sitting in my iTunes for over a month now and I still haven't gotten around to it. It's on my list for sure but didn't hear too much to excite me, so wasn't motivated. I am now.

It's more hip-hop than it is anything else. What would you call it?

I'd call it something that has absolutely no intention of sticking to genre labels or conventions. Blunt pulls elements from a bunch of genres without letting any of them really settle as a definitive direction for the music.
