I'll probably watch it, but I'm not expecting much.

Shouldn't this thread be in Curb? It'd probably get more conversation about it there.

It's gotten some good write ups. The first 90 min episode, at least.

Can't speak for the rest of the series, but the pilot episode was a complete fucking mess. Baz Luhrmann went completely ape shit.

Maybe its because I have zero attachment to the 70s and find that era corny as fuck, but I wasn't mesmerized like some of these critics. It does have some great actors and some scenes like the club or the church were pretty great, but its not connecting with me on many levels.

its aight. its not as bad as what some people made it out to be. the biggest problem is probably too few episodes. Jimmy Smits, as always, held it down with his role.

I like it a lot so far

In many ways it's exactly like stranger things, a nostalgic pastiche. It's warriors, it's a blaxploitation movie, it's a kung fu movie, it's style wars, it's Xanadu etc etc

A lot of it is clunky and Luhrman does too much, but if you like what it's based on it's an enjoyable mashup IMO.

Finished watching. Major qualms:

-Most of the actors suck
-they can't rap either
-The latina friend has a fat ass but she's not pretty
-Jaden smith takes a gay role but won't play tonsil hockey on camera? That just makes it more suspect
-nas' s raps are phoned in (reminds me of ghost on 12 reasons to give up on hip hop)
-beard makes him look like take care era drake
-did rza sign off on this shaolin character?

Ideas for next season:
-ditch all the characters and skip to the 90s
-alternatively, maybe jaden gets raped by bambaataa? Could be edgy

i mean for a musical set in the 70s Bronx about the birth of hip-hop its pretty fuckin good

the way some people are talking about this you'd have thought they were expecting the Wire.

funniest critique ive seen are that the rhymes are corny. What with Busy Bee and Coke La Rock being well renowned for their nuanced lyricism.

I gave up after 4 episodes. For every one dope thing about the show there seemed to be about 5 wack things to kill it.

Agreed 100%!! Way too much corny shit. I gave up during the 3rd episode. I almost didn't even start the 3rd episode...

The battle scene was great and made the whole series worthwhile. You guys are too jaded.
