Front-to-back classic. I think most people prefer album #3, but this was always my favorite. Black Thought peaked on tracks like What Goes On and Distortion To Static.

I went away from The Roots for a long time because I was so gayed out by anything okayplayer-related.

Classic, although went over a lot of people's head back then I think.

Lazy Afternoon is the ultimate cool out joint.

Illadelph halflife is by far the best roots album. In fact, it's the only roots album I'd ever considering revisiting right now.

Another part of Do You Want More not being more successful and accepted at the time was that the live drumming was very difficult to mix for DJ's. Questlove mentions that as a fact in his book. Back then DJ's really did hold a lot of power over getting music accepted.

Which album is Clones on? I like Clones.

I could probably pull 2 tracks off each album that I like but I've listened to most of their albums once and I just forget it's on after a while.

Clones is on Illadelph Halflife. Illadelph also contains probably the Roots best single...

Was my fav. Roots album by them until Game Theory and How I Got Over came into the picture. The title track having bagpipes in it always fucked my head up. Pretty different and innovative at the time.

this album to me was never about the individual songs....it doesnt have any anthems (altho the lesson comes close)...but the incredible organic fresh live feel it has was what made it such a great larger piece of work....feels like you are sitting in the troc listening to a live show whenever you throw the record on and that always to me superseded the sum of its parts

illadelph was always a better album imo because it was more b boy more hip hop...but nothing they would ever do would match the vibe of do you want more which is a top 100 all time album an thats nothing to sneeze at

always thought it was over rated :megaman:

i liked maybe 3-4 songs when it dropped... but hated the tinny sound of the drums... revisited it because of this thread, and was surprised that i feel exactly the same as i did then

with that said... the 12"s were ALL dope

One, maybe 2 good tracks. It wasn't a real Roots album. Barely any Black Thought.
