Your 25 favorite Hip Hop Tracks By Decade

Post by stype_ones »

This is murder. Actually, that is the understatement of the year, but it is easier than listing MCs or albums. I'm sure I will wish I put something else for some of my selections, but that is what makes this fun. Just dig in your head and heart and let it out here. Someone is bound to say a song that makes you second guess your list, but again, this is all for fun and love. Starting with the 80's and 90's, which is basically impossible in case you didn't realize..

1. Eric B & Rakim- My Melody (OG 12" version)
2. Big Daddy Kane & Biz Markie- Just Rhymin With Biz
3. Public Enemy- Rebel Without a Pause
4. BDP- My Philosophy
5. MC Shan- The Bridge
6. BDP -The Bridge Is Over
7. Ultramagnetic MC's - Ego Trippin
8. Biz Markie - Nobody Beats The Biz (OG 12" version)
9. Slick Rick- The Moment I Feared
10. Run DMC - Sucka MCs
11. Stetsasonic- Just Say Stet
12. Kid N' Play - Last Night
13. Crash Crew- High Powered Rap
14. JVC Force- Strong Island
15. Juice Crew- The Symphony
16. Schooly D- PSK
17. Divine Force- Holy War (Live)
18. LL Cool J- Rock The Bells (OG 12" version)
19. Special Ed- I Got it Made
20. Grand Master Caz- Get Down GMC
21. Queen Latifah- Wrath Of My Madness
22. Antoinette- I Got An Attitude
23. Steady B- Bring The Beat Back
24. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five- The Message
25. NWA - Straight Outta Compton

That was fuckin brutal. I tried to just come straight off the dome, but really, that doesn't work. Maybe this is too ambitious. I can easily name 50 more songs and it would be agony trying to figure out what to add and delete. Think about all the joints that were left off. Fuck! 90's gonna be worse but I'ma go with the gut up front for now..

1. Nas- Halftime
2. Geto Boys- Minds Playin Tricks On Me
3. Eric B & Rakim- Juice

EDIT** TO BE CONTINUED... I CAN ONLY TAKE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF STRESS PER DAY :owens:

I'm getting depressed thinking about making my list but if you swap out Halftime for NY State of Mind, that might be my 3 most favorite tracks of all-time right there.

Drop that 80s list, Gloss.

Thread needs someone to ride for Cool C's Juice Crew Dis.

I swear if that Juice Crew Dis beat had been used by a prominent NY rapper it would held in much higher regard

List of the decade is impossible by the way.

Ahh, missed it.

I was bent when I made my list last night and hungover when I was reading yours this morning.

La Di Da Di and Top Billin should be on my list some where.

That feeling when the whole squad is #TeamTheMomentIFeared

Image

Welcome To The Terrordome is 1990, Gloss. Unless it was the B-side of some 1989 P.E single?

It came out '89, but yeah Fear didn't drop until '90.

80s Rap is the shit. 86-92 is my favorite period. I prefer that over 93-99. Was just talking in the barber shop about that the other day. That seems like a crazy statement considering what came out 93-99 but it's how I truly feel.

86-92 yes, but give me 92-94 over any 3 year period in hip-hop.

Yeah. It's my favorite LL album too but there are like 8 ATROCIOUS songs on there. Luckily, it has like 19 tracks so it can easily be whittled down to one really awesome, concise album.
"Def jam in the motherland" always been a dl favorite of mine of that album.

Thought there would be more love for It Takes Two or is that a wedding/Pixar/Adam Sandler type joint now?

Also surprised there's a thread asking for lists and Wicked hasn't dropped his top 35 and told us which of our choices aren't hiphop.

As you'd expect from anyone who calls records "vinyls", Wicked doesn't know shit about teh hip hop made before 1995, so this thread is safe for now.

My Name Is Earl may have ruined It Takes Two for a lot of ppl:

I pretty tight that my list has no Jungle Brothers and no EPMD. It's unacceptable, really.
