Another fucking GREAT thing about Prodigy is... he doesn't have even ONE verse or era or project where he was trying some crossover sellout bullshit. So all we got is YEARS AND YEARS of solid ass QB dunn language over grimy ass beats and shit. That one R&B song they did is whateva whateva.

Prodigy stands FAR ABOVE both Jay-Z and Nas, and damn near every king, legend and icon in NYC rap history, when it comes to staying true to one's self.

hmm. i always consider stuff like how many times erick sermon has sampled vocals from licensed to ill in songs he's produced.

anyhow, this is a pretty horrible freestyle.

They did Hey Luv with 112 but I don't think that really popped . Their guest spot on Mariah Carey's The Roof (dope track btw) or Hold You Down were probably the closest they got to a mainstream hit other than Outta Control and that wasn't particularly commercial but had 50 at his peak

'Hey Luv' wasn't even embarrassing. At the time, it was like 'ehhh', but they didn't stay in that phase for a year or even for a few singles. The way the music biz was/is, it's a miracle Mobb Deep maintained their sonic integrity for so long. And we now know that lesson worse than ever, considering there is no more new Prodigy music that will be made, except for whatever unreleased gems Havoc and Alchemist and whoever whoever got for the world.

'Hold You Down' is a fucking eternal banger and they brought Nina Sky to the hood, the R&B hook didn't make P or Alc get soft.

'Learning (The Burn)' with Vita was a nice grimy way to say "you want something easy to listen to? fine. here you go, you rat bastard"

I have not yet been in a club when 'Shook Ones Part 2' comes on since Prodigy left to go check on his man Killa Black.
I AM NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT THAT IT WILL MAKE ME CRY. AND BE ANGRY AS FUCK. BUT ALSO SHED TEARS ON FIRE.

Hey Luv mighta got the most spins but I believe THIS is their most "commercial-sounding" track. When I first hear Got It Twisted I remember I was standing in Rock & Soul record store NYC, I thought it was different but it sounded hot to me and still authentic to the Mobb sound. When I heard this track with Lil Jon I thought they were really reaching outside their signature sound in a mission to get hot on the radio.
