Didn't listen to most of the stuff on your list. Whatever, Elucid "Valley of Grace", Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire "Brainiac" and the Cryp One EP are nice.
Ain't Showbiz & AG's "Take It Back" an official album?
By the way, 2 of my favorite EPs this year are Crimeapple "Metralleta" and Lil Eto & V Don "Omertà".

You can always listen to something you haven't heard and then change your vote.
Take It Back was first released as a free EP before it dropped as a limited album through the Slice-of-Spice label.
Perfect made the cut over Metralleta, good call on the Lil Eto & V Don.

Elucid - Valley of Grace
Deem Spencer - we think we alone
Grandmilly & Shoaze - Mausoleum
Honorable mention: Truman Snow - Kingdom Heartless
Again, the whole debate of is this an album vs. ep vs. mixtape skews this a bit. Regardless, clearly a great year for the East Coast EP.

Mach-Hommy- Dollar Menu gets my vote, all his other EP's would be tied if they were listed.
Re: East Coast EP of 2017
I love the one he did with Knxledge and the newer one with the multiple Earl beats ... figured he's gonna get nuff love in the album polls tho.

Exactly, that one became the representative for both Hommy and Fahim, rather than splitting the vote.unclebengi wrote:Mach-Hommy - Dollar Menu gets my vote, all his other EPs would be tied if they were listed.
And he will be present in an album poll.
More so with albums and mixtapes, not as much with albums and EPs I don't think. Because there the distinction has always been duration. I generally tend to say that anything shorter than Illmatic / Sgt. Pepper's (39:52) qualifies as an EP.Versive wrote:Again, the whole debate of is this an album vs. EP vs. mixtape skews this a bit. But yes, East Coast stepped up with EPs this year. The last three years seemingly have been dominated by the other two regions, but I think the West, and SoCal in particular somehow collectively chose to focus more on albums this go 'round.

Having heard none of these voted for LA, Xquire, and Cryptic.

Re: East Coast EP of 2017
only thing on this list i heard was Droog and Wiki.
with all these lists, there's a majority of "oh i had no idea this existed. who was behind marketing this? i would have listened to this if i had known." going on.
and i listen to music daily and try to listen to new music every other week or so at the least.
and people who don't even go out of their way to find new music are all "everything recent is trash".

Re: East Coast EP of 2017
most of this stuff barely has any marketing, if any. people just don't have budgets for that. you either need to follow the artist directly on twitter or wherever, or happen to follow the blog that happens to cover whatever niche the artist fell into

Cheers.

Don't sleep on Motel Six, the first EP sho and milly did this yr. Mausoleum is slightly better IMO but it's a different vibe and also very good.
