Grannies was one of my favorite songs of '17, but I wasn't sure if it was just Maxo at the peak of his powers or if he could be that consistently great...
Well he dropped Punken this month and it's a fucking tour de force. Easily the best album I've heard this year and it will be damn tough to keep it out of my end of year favorites. Can't think of anyone to compare his style too, but I feel like he'd shine alongside just about any style of MC. Can't wait to see who he collabs with this year because he murders every track on Punken, he has that unique ability to make crazy complex rhymes sound efforless and natural.

He's been consistently great since Quicc Strikes, almost never misses. Maybe TOO dependable, there were a few songs that stood out strongly here but overall it felt like 'yup Maxo did another good one as expected'. I think he's gotten a little better as a writer on this though.

Quickly replaced Denzel as my favorite; motherfucker is the best in the game right now.
Fresh off his lucrative RCA partnership and Roc Nation management deal earlier in the year, Maxo Kream released his major-label debut and Punken follow-up with Brandon Branks, named after his father, on Friday (July 19).
The Houston native has progressed into one of hip-hop's premier storytellers, which is apparent on album opener "Meet Again." Brandon Banks also includes previous singles in the Megan Thee Stallion-assisted "She Live" and "Still." Kream calls on ScHoolboy Q, A$AP Ferg and Travis Scott for guest spots.
Maxo heads out on a headlining tour in support of the LP this fall. The Brandon Banks Tour kicks off in New Orleans at the Parish at House of Blues on Oct. 16. The North American trek sees additional stops in Houston, Dallas, NYC, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Denver and San Francisco, plus more.
I guess I was sleeping on this dude because he came out of nowhere for me. Quickly became one of my fav artists though. You can see his progression with each project, and at this point he's a complete package as a rapper. Lyrics, flow, beat selection, story telling etc. Really surprised he's not bigger.
