Mecca And The Soul Brother Vs. The Main Ingredient

Post by stype_ones »

So Gloss posted about TMI today on IG and the debate arose as to which is better, MATSB or TMI. I have been torn for years over this argument, although I happen to think both are masterpieces in their own right. But it's time to do the :phila: thing and put a gun to our heads.

I saw this post on IG this afternoon, so being that I had errands to run and some time to kill while the wife was in stores, I decided to listen to both front to back consecutively. I have to say, and this was difficult, I think I am rolling with MATSB. It's just too good. TMI has so many great songs and the production is more polished, but MATSB has songs like For Pete's Sale, Ghetto of the Mind, Can't Front On Me, Anger In the Nation, Skinz, and The Basement. But TMI has so many gems as well. It's damn near impossible to pick. I gotta roll with Mecca, though. Just my gut feeling but really either choice is correct if you get down to it. :fail:

Either choice is wrong and right at the same time, but I gotta roll with TMI if it’s Sophie’s choice.

"Mecca And The Soul Brother" by a mile. PR's beats were awesome on "Mecca..."! With his production, he defined the sound of the following years, plus there were no shitty R&B choruses on it as far as I remember. And last but not least, Puba wrote PR's rhymes, so he sounded much better.

I always prefered the "TMI" Instrumentals wax over the vocal version...

Lots Of Lovin'

MATSB wins this battle purely because of Skinz, but the EP is their real masterpiece.

For me, it's the complete opposite. M&tSB had more stand-out tracks, but TMI was a way more consistent album overall.

Gotta go Main Ingredient both are essential. But MI dropped at a more memorable time of my life. It’s probably a top 10 personal for me

Main Ingredient, because it was the one I heard first and "Sun Won't Come Out" has to be one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Prepare yourself now for the six man wedding!

To me, The Main Ingredient aged better than Mecca

Main ingredient was good but Mecca is one of my personal favorite hiphop albums. The beats and samples on Mecca were so next level at the time. The features were crazier too. I was feeling Pete's off beat ass flow more than CL's.
