KRS-One/BDP Tribute

Post by Philaflava »

Episode 25 was a dream come true for us. If you've listened to our Wu-Tang, DJ Premier, Prodigy, Atmosphere and Pete Rock tribute shows, you know we're like Steady B and take these tributes seriously. On this 5+ hour tribute, we take you back to the days of Boogie Down Production all the way to the Blastmaster of today. We sprinkle in boom bap classics, underground anthems, guest appearances, remixes and personal favorites throughout this musical journey. It's sometimes easy to forget greatness, but after this episode, we're certain everyone will remember just how important, influential and accomplished KRS-One is. We're also certain after listening, it's going to be difficult not to reconsider your greatest MC's rankings. We have a brand new website TakeItPersonalRadio.com where you can stream, download and view playlists for every episode we release. Enjoy our KRS-One tribute and keep real hip-hop alive!

As long as you don't play that ill-advised KRS collabo with REM, I'll check this out.

I don't know, man. I've become a pretty huge REM fan in recent years, no homo. The hits always held me back, but then I dove in and found out that they got like 100 good songs. I'm all up in the unreleased tracks and bootlegs and what not. Not sure if I'm just getting old (about to turn 40), but I love me some REM, I'll tell you what.

The first 5 REM albums are some great stuff. I have to be in the mood to listen to them but I'll get into it for a couple of days once in a while.

Big R.E.M. fan myself. One of my biggest regrets is not seeing them live.

KRS was quite a bit before my time so I never really checked him out or gave him much of a chance. I was a bit reluctant to dive into a 5 hour tribute show of an artist I had no interest in, but man I'm glad I did. I got taken to school and now I have a whole new appreciation for him. Super cool that he gave you guys the time for such a great interview. I had a big smile on my face when you got him to do the cypher. Awesome show guys.

It's on the website. We always post the isolated interviews as well.

FINALLY got around to listening this evening while I was cooking. Great job as usual, guys. The music is always great, and what makes you stand out from most other podcasts, but incorporating them with the interviews it just becomes another level. Great KRS interview. It's cool to hate on KRS post say 1997, but he is one of the Godfathers of this shit and smart and well spoken. Sometimes it's not as deep as he makes it, and sometimes he is just kind of full of shit, but he was great in this interview. The best you've had overall, but they've all been great on one level or another.

I wonder what KRS would have said had this interview taken place today with regards to Kanye.

Yeah. He seemed to start taking himself very seriously around that time, and obviously there weren't the kind of social media platforms we had today so you'd go by the limited amount of information that you'd hear. There was also the infamous interview with Westwood and that really turned a lot of people over here off him.

But then you hear an interview like this and he just seems like an extremely endearing guy. And there's no arguing with his body of work. Pretty amazing.

Good stuff. Thanks for listening guys. Like many of you, I had some issues with KRS myself. His output wasn't up to par and his recent comments about Bam were off-puting, but I forgot all of that during this interview.
