I Started a Label, Long Island Rap Records
Hi all, just wanted to drop a line that I turned my blog into a label. The first release is from my good friend, Andy Koufax, who some of you might have heard singing on Willie Green's Doc Savage album (the track was "Thousand Headed Man" ft. Armand Hammer). Here he's singing, rapping, producing, and playing all sorts of instruments. As such, it's not strictly hip-hop, ventures into grunge, prog rock and neo-soul.
Listen to album here: https://www.longislandrap.com/2020/02/a ... irr01.html
Tapes available here: https://www.longislandrap.com/p/store.html
In case you're wondering, the site will continue to function as it has in the past. Just adding another component to it.
Sorry for the shameless plug. I hope some of you dig this. Any support would be deeply appreciated.

Hey if you are going to lock Silly Kid's awful thread you have to lock this too. It's either okay for everybody or it's okay for nobody.

The difference is that I'm promoting other people's music not my own. But yeah, feel free if I'm wrong.

I dropped a benefit compilation. It's 23 new tracks, almost all of them otherwise unreleased, including exlcusives from SmooVth, Cryptic One, Darc Mind, Theravada and many more. VERY different from the last release. Also all proceeds go to a good cause. I hope you enjoy.

Peace to Cryptic. I see you got fellow LI's on there like Smoovth and Roc Marci.
Re: I Started a Label, Long Island Rap Records
Yes big shouts to Cryptic, who came thru with one of the dopest tracks on here IMO. It's all LI (Cryptic came up in Westbury if ya don't know). Both of SmooVth's cuts came straight from him and are totally unreleased. He also gave the whole thing a listen when I was sweating the sequencing. The Roc Marc remix came from DJ Surrup, who says he'll be remixing the full Dark Horse album at some point (fingers crossed on that one). My personal favorite song is probably WiFiOG's Study Moore -- he's from out in Central Islip, used to go by DJ Pr!nce and is a man of many hats -- DJ for Skyzoo, video director for Roc and WSG, rapper, producer, etc.

Great reason to throw a comp together. Plays nicely too. Well done, projects like these are not an easy task. Was gonna give props to Cryptic as well. And yeah, didn't see anyone listed that's not from Strong Isle.
As far as SmooVth goes, it's cool that he gave you some unreleased tracks but nobody wanted to snip out or at least cut down on the full Forrest Gump audio only bonus track closing sample on his second track? Because that shit kills the momentum. I'm imagining even more so on any repeated listens. That'd be my only real criticism, but I am known to hate long, drawn out samples. Especially when it's from some well known source material and doesn't seem to serve any real purpose. Like I'm pretty sure all producers should know better by now, but even Alchemist is still doing that kinda shit from time to time, so I guess I'm just out of touch in that regard.

Re: I Started a Label, Long Island Rap Records
Haaa, thanks for listening, Sleep.
Yeah, I did think about cutting it back (specifically cutting it at "My feet hurt") but decided in the end that it led into Cryptic's tune and its opening sample nicely. Also after repeated listens, I started applying wild sociopolitical interpretations to that dialogue and how it might apply to the themes in the music ... but then, I am a crazy person.
Anyway, I'm glad you dug it overall. Thanks for the feedback!
P.S. The only 2 rappers on here not from LI are Femcee Flipsidee (Chicago) and SageInfinite (Jersey).

Yeah like I said, that'd be my only personal gripe, solid throughout.
Ah, never had even heard of either of them I don't think, so I just assumed they were from around the way as well.

If anyone's been thinking about copping this, holding off until Bandcamp waives its fees, etc., 50% of all proceeds from tmrw's sales will go to BLM. (The other 50% will continue to go to local food shares.)
