Best DJ/Producer on the mic

Post by Combo7 »

I chose people who I feel are known mainly for their production talents, but your vote should be based entirely on who among these choices is the best RAPPER. So disregard their production skills.

I left some people off (Lord Finesse, RZA) in order to keep the poll from being a landslide towards one person.

Extra-P for me.

Pete Rock

not necessarily the most lyrical, but I highly apreciate his style on the mic. Soul Brother #1 is a classic.

I voted for Extra P, but people are SLEEPING on Godfather Don... RZA definitely deserves to be on this list though... Lord Finesse is a dope producer too, but he's a much better emcee, i think of him as an emcee who produces more than vice versa

Extra P, although Diamond had better albums and some unforgetable guest spots.

Godfather Don is dope, but he doesn't have a catalog like the rest of the producers listed.

Now techically, you could have also added Q-Tip who would stack up nice against Finesse and RZA.

guess it depends on your criteria... whether it's more important that the guy is a dope producer or a dope emcee...

DJ Quik is the best rapper out of these. Top 3 producer, too.

To me, Godfather Don is the best pure rapper on that list. I love Pete Rock and Large Pro, but in terms of raw skills, I think Godfather is head and shoulders about them cats.

Godfather don is better lyrically than any of the other dj/mcs on that list. if he was left off i would have a tough time picking one. went with the obvious choice in don. imo

whoa! I was five seconds from making this post! I am always pondering this... was El-P not included for the same reasons the RZA was? cuz he is the "definitive" best

me too. and i know i must be right when i have the same answer to a hip hop question as bza does...

'stunts, blunts and hip hop' should be enough to win this poll.

I didn't include El-P, Madlib, etc. simply because they're out of place among everyone else on the list. You'd have kids coming in here that didn't know shit about hip hop pre-1999 who would just vote for someone they recognized.

And mud, thanks for quoting that. I think a lot of people didn't even look at my explanation of the poll.

Pete Rock.

I would've voted for Tony Touch but he's not really a producer, per se. Tony Tocha is a GREAT rapper though.

Damn, I'm surprised people actually voted for Maseo. And that no one has voted for Tocha.
