But if you voted for UMC's you'd be voting for a different groupMurph wrote:Shit Phila, you just sit there and try to think of the hardest polls to vote in don't you
I have to vote for UMC's just because Critical Beatdown is one of the best rap albums ever, and blows the OK albums out of the water.

And I voted Ultra too.
OK's self-titled debut was alright with some great tracks like Fudge Pudge, Releasing Hypnotical Gases and Who Stole, but the remixes that DIDN'T appear on the LP were much better. Their follow-up Stress was a masterpiece and Equinox was decent BUT Ultra put out some classics that 99% of the current hip-hoppers have no clue about.
1988 - Critical Beatdown
1992 - Funk Your Head Up
1993 - The Four Horseman
1994 - The Basement Tapes 1984ג1990
1996 - New York What Is Funky
1996 - Big Time (Ultra)
1996 - Mo Love's Basement Tapes
1997 - The B-Sides Companion
1998 - Smack My Bitch Up
2007 - The Best Kept Secret

Kinda agree. The beats are about equal, this contest is defintiely an emcee-based one. You have Pharoahe Monch vs Kool Keith and Prince Po vs Ced Gee, basically. Ultra is the shit but I gotta go with OK based on consistency alone.Russian wrote:OK as a group takes it. But when it comes to SOLO non of them touch Kool Keith.
I enjoy listening to Ultra more though. edit: now that I think about it, Kool Keith's mid-90's work > Pharaohe's, on the solo tip. Still though.
I've only heard individual tracks from Funk Your Head Up and 4 Horseman, and like I said I do enjoy listening to Ultra more but have a larger appreciation for OK on a whole. Perhaps my opinion will change once I hear the full albums. Are they generally hard to find in stores?admiral wrote:SYMantiks wrote:Ultra is the shit but I gotta go with OK based on consistency alone.
Critical Beatdown, Funk Your Head Up, 4 Horsemen >>> OK's self titled, Stress, and Equinox.

Can't get myself to vote but....
OK all day.
Why you say?
The teaming of two brainiac dumb dumbs such as Monch and Po is unmatchable by most duo standards....
the only way one could view Keith as having a viable cohort is by pitting him w/ one of his alter egos.....
Ced Gee/Tim Dawg/Keith (minus GawdFather Don, he wasn't "officially" UltraMag) vs. Monch & Po......No contest really.....
Base it offa RIGHT NOW, got me not actually voting and just speakin' on it.....

Wow... I do not agree with the outcome of this poll so far. I'm usually pretty unbiased in these things, but people seriously prefer the OK albums over Critical Beatdown and Funk Your Head Up? That is crazy talk to me.

Combo is 100%. This isn't a Pharoahe vs. Kool Keith poll. This has NOTHING to do with skills or solos. This is about the group's work, influence and really just complete catalog.
Not only has Ultra had more material than OK, but their first 3 albums were . If you haven't heard it then that's undestandable, but it doesn't make it right.

4 Horseman is more available.... I think they did a re-issue not too long ago if memory serves, but relatively speaking their both pretty hard to find, especially Funk Your Head Uprichard lamplighter wrote:i thought 4 horsemen was pretty available in stores, i see it on occasionB.
