Can-U_Day By Day

Post by Can-U »

http://www.myspace.com/can_u there is the link

I posted this in my two cents but I basically consider the sound lab its own separate website. Anyways, this is a track I'm doing for this Blue Scholars compilation. Probably one of my favorite tracks I've ever done. It was produced by the late, great Tayo. Who I have spoke to and is actually doing well. He may be a politician soon in Bermuda and he's busy as fuck but hopefully one day i'll see a post from him in here saying, bloom brap, instrumental joint, joi singing and all the other goodness. I'll get to reviewing some of the newer tracks in a moment.

I get by like today is the same day as the last one
and this paycheck has to last at least one week
until the next one, I'm stressed because
sometimes enough just isn't enough
I'm given the minimum for maximum
and after that I'm taxed a sum for what they haven't done
I'm askin, is it worth it?
Is your so called service worth forty percent of my workshifts?
Sure it is. I'm nervous to go out without a sweatshirt
since I don't have insurance
like if I'm cold what do I know about pneumonia
I know I can't afford not to go to work tomorra
So I'm no good without a jacket
Lookin at goods at my job like, maybe I should jack it
I can't hack it, so I get no calls
Unless it's from the court, where I'm caught with a charge
Cuz a cop had to stop me and give me a fine
like the cops are run properly and everythings fine
you need a cop on your property they're nowhere to find
cuz a cop is probably just a prop in this life
So I watch my back and carry this time
like a watch on my back thats heavy and light
I got the weight of the day on my shoulder blades
as i I wait for the day that my soul decays

Now what I want to do is get up and move
and not follow you and your living for fools
I made a promise to not mix fiction and truth
cuz tomorrow grew from this minutes view
we're all trying to find that one piece of mind
with their foot on our spine in the daily grind
but before I die I'm gonna get mine
I take it day by day and one step at a time

I'm a failure and a champion waiting for a chance
I climb a mountain in a minute but take days to advance inches
I cant invest in a lack of interest
so I'm relaxed in the task of finishin the dishes
my living conditions are always half done
cuz i prioritize chores below having fun
so i'm out on the town while my girl gets mad
cuz I didn't make the bed and instead went and had
a couple drinks or a puff off a blunt
you can call it diversion or whatever you want
but in moderation it's medication for the month
since i've lost my patience and dont really give a fuck
n I wake up and shake up the blankets and say whats
with these rooms being so damn cold
It must be my heating bill getting so damn old
and I know what I owe, just not what I pay for
We're nickled and dimed at each instance in time
and this business is blind, in their visions for life
house prices on the rise and I can't keep up
I guess I'll pay rent my whole life every month
and I own nothing but know one thing
that I don't have to own one thing to hold love see
we know as a people the money's not equal
but understand that a struggle will teach you

Now what I want to do is get up and move
and not follow you and your living for fools
I made a promise to not mix fiction and truth
cuz tomorrow grew from this minutes view
we're all trying to find that one piece of mind
with their foot on our spine in the daily grind
but before I die I'm gonna get mine
I take it day by day and one step at a time

Not really feeling this at all. Voice, beat, flow and lyrics are all pretty weak. It comes off as a poor rendition of something that's already been done a million times, something that wasn't that dope to begin with. Sorry.

Damn, the beats i've heard from you i've liked actually. I figured real would recognize real as the saying goes. Nevertheless I obviously disagree and plenty of others do to. Can I ask who you are feeling production wise and emcee wise?

Ha, maybe I shoulda kept my mouth shut.

To be sure, it isn't wack. It just seems like some uncompromising type rap that overestimates the listener's attention span and empathy. None of the elements really grabbed me or struck me as risky. Tha innanetz are just so saturated with rappers these days, you really gotta go that extra mile to do something different and stand out.

Of course, it's all opinions. I didn't think Martin's posse-cut beat was that dope, but the board went crazy for it. I think Captin Planit is 'that dude' as far as beats go, but his response to my music tends to be lukewarm at best.

Oh, to answer your question...

From this board, I'd say my favourite beats were by Ardamus, Ajax, Bizzlestiltskin and Planit. Of 'known' producers, apart from the usual suspects (Dre, Primo, etc), I'm feeling Nottz, Black Jeruz, J-Zone, Jake-One these days.

Rappers: Too many to name really. I like stuff at all points of the spectrum... from Jay-Z to Wu-Tang to Lil' Flip to Uncle Murder to Canibus to Kanye, and the list goes on. Never could get with the whole Anticon/Slug/Sole/El-P/Cannibal Ox era stuff.

Yeah, I dig this. One thing about your flow I like is how chilled out you come across on the beat. You just ride on it on some blunted-out/half-baked shit. I'm glad that beat changes up because that horn sound repeated like that gets a little annoying. You definitely got a voice of your own. Thanx for posting this.
