The Roc-a-fella Dynasty vs. The Death Row era

Post by Magneto »

Which was better?

Roc-a-Fella:

Jay-Z
Beanie Sigel and State Property
Freeway
Cam'ron and the Diplomats
Kanye West
Just Blaze

vs.

2Pac
Snoop Dog
Dr.Dre
Kurupt and Daz
RBX
Rage

Dope/Classic Albums:
Roc-a-fella

Blueprint
Come Home With Me
Reasonable Doubt
Philadelphia Freeway
College Drop Out
Vol. 1
Vol. 3
The Black Album
Diplomatic Immunity
State Property Chain Gang

vs.

The Chronic

Above the Rim SDTK

Take the nostalgia out of the equation if you can.

Interesting poll.

Both camps brought something new, and both had legendary artists on the roster. Although Death Row only lasted for 4 years really so Roc-A-Fella had a lot more time to amass classics.

Roc-A-Fella is the obvious choice to me.

Let's see, The Roc has "Diplomatic Immunity", "Come Home With Me", a few other Cam 12"s, a bunch of Jay albums and 12"s, those early Sauce Money 12"s, 3 Beanz albums, first State Prop album and a couple of 12"s from the 2nd State Prop, both Freeway albums, a few Peedi 12"s, 3 KanYe albums, the first Young Gunz album and the Paid In Full soundtrack.

Death Row has "Deep Cover" 12", "The Chronic", the 12" with "Puffin' On Blunts.." on the flip, "Doggy Style", "Murder Was The Case", "Above The Rim", "Dogg Food", that Daz album and maybe a couple of 2pac 12"s.

Okay, fuck all that, what it basically boils down here to is Paid In Full >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Murder Was The Case.

The Roc wins.

and tha roc had the benefit of having all of their records come out on their label. safe+sound & warren g's debut were both basically a product of death row.. but aren't included because of label contracts

kinda sorta.

Death Row was unquestionably more powerful and dominant.

Rocafella was kinda the default superpower when Ruff Ryders flamed out and Cash Money/No Limit were not doing similar stuff.

Plus Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel (and Sauce Money for a second) carried more than their fair share of the legacy. There was X amount of MEH on the Roc.

I'd take Kurupt music over Memphis Bleek anyday

:killacam:

Cam ain't REALLY Roc-a-fella. He was a Dame Dash-sponsored infiltration.

Hell, Cam sideways dissed Jay-Z on the song that they rapped on together on 'Come Home With Me'!

I loved it, referencing Prodigy when Jigga and P Dub were beefin' hard. Only Cam is that blatantly, carelessly disrespectful.

Take away Jay and take away Snoop, and the difference between the two dynasties is more obvious.

Suge wins. and hip hop loses.

Nonsense. Cam'ron was part of the most profitable and important, and best era of the Roc dynasty. That's like saying 2Pac ain't Death Row.

well, in essence I agree, cause Cam was the only other one to go platinum besides Jay-Z on the whole damn label.

but Cam got signed (and was crowned "vice president" :killacam: ) when Jay-Z wasn't even there!

ironically, I just got past the part in Ronin Ro's dope Dr. Dre biography that states that Suge brought Tupac to Death Row totally without Dr. Dre's approval.

Magneto, I'm sure you know how 'California Love' was originally a solo Dre song that Suge and Pac gaffled.

all in all, I'd say Death Row dominated hip hop in its prime more than Rocafella did in its prime.

but i love them both :cookiecookie:

and :hooray: well done, ackbar.

I've never liked Death Row, and have never understood why so many people worship Dr. Dre, I've never been a big fan. Roc A Fella in it's prime blows Death Row outta the water, not even a competition here imo.

Death Row had one of the greatest dynasties in all of music, fuck just hip-hop.

Death Row should be up against Def Jam. Roc-A-Fella is on some Duckdown shit if you wanna get technical.

You take Jay out of Roc-A-Fella and while its still a "nice" label with Cam/Dips and Beans, it is no powerhouse.

There isnt one artist you can take out of Death Row and deminish it to that level. You can remove Dre from the equation, and Death Row still trumps most other labels.
