What the FUCK happened to Aceyalone?

Post by Employee »

All the shit he did with Freestyle Fellowship was amazing. Then he drops what is arguably one of the best albums to come out of the west coast ever:

After that we get a dope album in its own right:

When did he decide to give up on life?

Acey just needs new inspiration, like anyone else not where they used to be.

I was a huge Acey fan. Real chill dude too, I remember I did an interview with him years ago and he was just driving around L.A. killing time on his dime and stayed on the phone close to 70 minutes just to shoot the shit. I dig him and mos definitely the FF catalog and his earlier stuff. I even liked his later releases to an extent and thought Accepted Eclectic was real dope. I got down with that whole Mike Aaron and Eddie steez too and from time to time he made a dope cut like Moonlight Skies but my interest and loyalty towards him went out the window when I heard this

He hasn't made a real good album in well over 7 years.

ya definitely seems like dude made a sharp turn for the worse around 97.

he's been fairly prolific, but i just find myself not caring when his songs/albums drop.

"Deep and Wyde" and "Never Said" are classic tracks, but I don't really like Acey like that.

Totally agree with this thread.

Lightning Strikes was awful.

But, I liked Grand Imperial and a few tracks of that RJD2 project.

It seems like his performances match the caliber of the beats. And he hasn't had dope beats since ABDB.

Truly sad, he's one of my top five all time MC's but I haven't checked for anything since Accepted Eclectic.

Great live performer, and a nice guy to boot. Once admitted he was scared of Winnipeg's West End while we waited for our rides after a gig.

Someone should post up one of his best songs and one of his worst for comparison.

His stuff was hit or miss for me. No one I ever got real excited about.

Buddhist don't make beats?

I guess they don't, it interferes with their state of pink and fluffy tranquility. More proof that eastern philosophy should stay in the east.

Word. DJ Krush (I think that's his name) made that album Zen which was rele dope... jap dude.

A buddhist can only own seven things right? I guess Mumbles thought clothing was more important than an MPC and a milkcrate of old records

back to Acey, I thought there was a few decent songs on the RJ album.

Favorite song: Master Your High

 at people still hoping Acey will turn around. That record he did with RJD2 was decent at best. His classics are overplayed, I can't even listen to book.
Doesn't the false hope sort of contradict the hate for old rappers.

Hey kid, walk straight, master your high.

The guy was great for damn near a decade. Very few artists in the history of hip hop wrecked shop over a 10 year period.

Fellowship Shop Tapes (1989-1990)
To Whom It May Concern (1991)
Innercity Griots (1993)
All Balls Don't Bounce (1995)
Universal Soldier EP (1995)
A Book Of Human Language (1998)

He fell the fuck off right around 1999/2000. I thought that "Faces Of The Deep" was his last great song.
