After much deliberation we've decided we're going to upgrade the Philaflava forums. The feel of the site won't change but some of the functionality will. Upgrading will allow us to provide a better forum with faster speed, better technology and ultimately it'll create a much bigger social network on Philaflava.

The site will be shut down around 10 AM EST and this will last a few hours. We hope to have things up and running in the afternoon but we cannot promise that. What we can promise is you'll welcome this change once you log back on.

Some of the new features we'll be offering are

- Embedded videos (Youtube)
- Report posts (meaning you can report a user whether they're spamming or posting something against the rules)
- Draft Post
- Multiple Poll Options
- Vote changing (allows you to change your vote at any given time)
- Password Protected Forums
- Subforums
- Topic sorting
- Post sorting
- Email topics
- Print topics
- Friend/Foe list
- Send PM to multiple recipients
- Address Book
- Merging threads/posts
- Bookmarks
- IM's
- Forum permission (meaning you can have special privileges even if you aren't a mod)

Is this going to be phpBB3? That shit is dope. You can set members' forum permissions to each individual forum. For example, you could allow someone to create threads in CYE but not P&B, among other more specific options.

That option is already available and it shouldn't slow things down being the bandwidth doesn't come from our site.

Not connection wise, but the video screens themselves can sometimes be slow to load, if there are several links on the same page.

We went years without this option. I think the majority of people would actually prefer the videos than not. Plus our forums will be faster come tomorrow and I'd hope in 2008 most of us have sophisticated connections.
