Investigators used dental records to identify Griffin, 25, who began his tumultous pro career with the Houston Rockets in 2001. He was waived by the Timberwolves in March.Philaflava wrote:Last week? How come nobody knew about this?
The five-year veteran and former seventh overall draft pick had battled alcohol problems since coming out of Seton Hall. He was suspended by the NBA for five games in January for violating the anti-drug program.
Houston police said in a report that the SUV ignored a railroad warning and went through a barrier before striking the moving train about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
The driver's body was badly burned and there was no identification.
NBA Comparison: Tim Duncan
Strengths: One of the top overall talents in college basketball already... Has all the makings of a future NBA superstar.. Only 18, and has a ton of physical developing to do, a scary thought... Can stroke shots all the way out to college 3... Similar to A-Rahim with his smoothness, and offensive skills, but has even more athleticism.. Very strong post and intermediate game... Has excellent rebounding and defensive skills.. Very calm court demenor, (similar to Tim Duncan) doesn't get rattled easily.. Sometimes the lack of emotion gets confused with a lack of desire, but it's there...
Weaknesses: Ball Handling abilities are not super... Needs to get alot stronger.. Needs to get nastier (on the court).. Character questions have resulted from two separate incidents involving off the court fights with teammates, one in HS one in College.
buddy was top 10 talent ever coming out of college

Shit, I'm in Houston and this is the first I've heard of this. It's just showing up on the wires so I guess the fact that they had to identify him from dental records is the reason it took so long.
Rockets traded Richard Jefferson (13th overall) in 2001 to get Griffin (7th overall). I'm still pissed about it.
Griffin's career was a train wreck.
I couldn't resist, I'm sorry.
R.I.P.

Just heard about this from my uncle. I had the privilege of seeing him play as a high schooler, and watching him then, you could just tell there was something special about his playing. He just needed to mature.
I think his career was doomed when he left Seton Hall early, as he hadn't yet learned how to behave.
It's a shame that his career was riddled with so many incidents and that his life was ended so prematurely.
Rest in peace.

tough off season for wolves fans
eddie griffen is a prime example on how guys who can leave early are not always wise to do so. he had mad raw talent, but wasnt able to cope with what it takes to play in the NBA.
the guy was a wreck, he had to have a personal assistent do everything for him. he was suppossed to be turning his life around, he was gonna go play ball in Eurpoe , he was talking about his daughter.
he had serious depression issues.

It might just be a personal thing but...Eddie Griffin was gonna be our generation's Marvin Harrison. A Roman grad who would go on to have at least a decent pro career...so fucked up though now.
i think i know some people from your class
as for EG
its a sad thing
between seeing this on the news last night and that heart wrentching Trotter press conference i almost shed a tear

he could have been beating off and had to choose between killing himself on the side of a train or swerving into a ditch, risking severe blueballs. to some, there are fates worse than death.CaPaBLe_KeL wrote:duh... who swerves thru RR gates to collide into the 40th car on said train if you like waking up every morning to hear how everyone thinks you are a bi-polar bust

but RIP regardless of all that. was thinking he'd be an OK fit for the Celtics depending on his commitment to being serious about basketball.
