Top 10 Current Centers

Post by naturalborn103 »

You are rating them going forward..

1) D Howard
2) B Lopez
3) Gasol
4) Duncan
5) Perkins
6) Horford
7) Jefferson
8) Noah
9) Bynum
10) Kaman

Side note.. I don't consider Lee a real center, Perkins has best man defense in the league and his offense is getting better, and Duncan is getting old, Kaman is going to fall off soon, Jefferson got no D, and Marc Gasol and Nene gets honorable mention.

'rating them going forward'

so you mean simply to "build a team around"

not for one game or one season right?

Yea.. If there was a draft right now and it was your pick, who would you get. If it was one season Duncan would probably be 1 or 2.

Injury history is taken into account, which is why I left Yao off my list.. Also how long do people expect Duncan to stay at this level? You only got about 2 more years where he can be the center piece.

I think Duncan's got atleast 3-4 more years of 19-10 numbers

If it was building for the future I would go

Howard
Bynum
Lopez
Gasol
Horford
Jefferson

I don't think of Pau Gasol or Al Jefferson as centers.

In no particular order:

Dwight Howard
Brook Lopez
Andrew Bynum
Kendrick Perkins
Al Horford
Tim Duncan
Nene Hilario
Joakim Noah
Chris Kaman
Greg Oden (I'm hanging on)

In the running for the 10th spot: Andris "Bill Russell" Biedrins, Emeka Okafor, Samuel Dalembert, Marc Gasol, and perhaps Big Roy Hibbert. I'm also very interested in Thabeet, but who knows if that experiment is gonna work out.

Shout out to Kwame Brown? :gyeah:

Any dope centers coming out of college next year?

:icedit: :icedit:

Meant to include Yao in my Top 10

Ya'll are crazy with that Brook Lopez pick... no way is that slouch top 5. His stats can be deceiving, he's bummy.

1) D Howard
2) P Gasol
3) Fundamental
4) Nene
5) Bynum
6) Perkins
7) Lopez
8) Horford
9) Noah
10) S O'Neal

Chris Kaman, Marc Gasol, David Lee, Sam Dalembert, Birdman, and the Jermaine O'Neal are all solid... Channing Frye is the best 3-point shooter of the bunch.

Shaq is still a good center, I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet..

Like my dude said, there aren't many true centers left.. most of the guys on my list are power forwards.

Nene is criminally slept on.. IMHO he's very similar to Perkins, except slightly better in every aspect beside maybe blocks.

No love for Aaron Gray?

Where's Brendan Haywood on your lists? Wood >>> Dalembert, Perkins, Oden, Nene, all other 2nd-rate pivots

no this guy is right, lopez isnt that good, nene is better than him, howard, kaman, bynum, pau, probably marc gasol, he might have bogut but probably not, his stats are making him real overrated by people that dont waste time watching the nets, him and hibbert are about on the same level he's got him by a little though, yea if you consider horford a center which he does play he's better than him too, if hawes ever plays consistent he'll be better also

Guys that otherwise know their basketball are striking the fuck out on the Brook Lopez thing, huh?

Dude is a beast in the making. A 20/10 guy that could finish top 5 in blocks, shoot 85% from the free throw line, make the intelligent pass more often than not, etc. Brook is fundamentally-sound, and then some (hence the Timmy comparison).

Tim Duncan and Paul Gasol are not centers. They may have the nicest post moves in the league, but they normally don't start the game off as centers unless there is an injury. They may move to center in game situations, but that's because of a substitution move. Therefore, I can't name them as centers so I'm not.

Al Jefferson starts at center because Minnesota is short up front. Ryan Hollins is too terrible to start and Kevin Love is 6'9'' like Al Jeff is. They get listed at 6'10'', but they are really 6'9''. Height measurements are exagerrated greatly at times.

Amar'e Stoudemire is going to be the starter at center for the West in the all-star game, but he's really a power forward. Channing Frye plays center on the Suns, but he's really a power forward too.

I sounded off on this subject in the NBA thread a long ass time ago by saying that there are not that many dope centers in the game. I also said that there is not that many true centers also.

Here is my center list. I'm only including centers that are healthy. I don't know what Yao and Oden can do when they come back.

1. Dwight Howard
2. Kendrick Perkins
3. Brook Lopez
4. Al Horford
5. Chris Kaman
6. Nene
7. Andrew Bynum
8. Andrew Bogut
9. Marc Gasol
10. Shaquille O'Neal

I've yet to see a post discrediting Brook Lopez that has any substance other than "this other guy is better"

Dude is legit. He's pretty much the only player on the team worth a damn. :owens:
