I don't think it is going to be the flyers, because they have serious cap problems. They would have to get rid of a top notch player like:an-also wrote:If philly gets him, Pitt better look out
Richards
Carter
Van Riemsdyk
I don't think they want to trade any of them unless Kovalchuk signs and extension. Plus they have to make another deal to clear up cap room. They would have to get rid of Gagne or Hartnell also. I just don't see it happening.
Supposedly the Caps are the ones that are in the best position to deal, and I wouldnt be surprised if you see Semin go. I f they free up Semin, they will be about 8-9 mil under the salary cap. Which they may be able to sign him for that much.
Who knows though. I also heard that the Penguins are in on the Kovalchuk sweepstakes.

God Damm the devils didnt even give up Zajac. All the rumors and speculation can now come to an end. Ilya Kovalchuk has finally been traded. Atlanta sent the Russian sniper along with Anssi Salmela to New Jersey in exchange for a defenseman Johnny Oduya, rookie forward Niclas Bergfors, currently suspended prospect Patrice Cormier and a 2010 first-round pick after days of speculation that a deal would go down. The teams will also swap second-round selections in this June's Entry Draft.
We've been more than solid up to this point, thanks a lot to number 30. It's still early in the season but 5th place overall and 2nd in the East. The addition of Kovs should give the offense a direct gamma ray shot to the chest.alpha wrote:dont get to see much eastern conf hockey but how good are the devils this year? and how good does this trade make them?
Elias should be coming back soon too. I'm really loving my squad right now.

ARIZONA POLICE ARREST OILERS GOALIE KHABIBULIN
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=310498EDMONTON -- Edmonton Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin is facing charges of drunk driving and speeding following an incident in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Khabibulin was pulled over in a black Ferrari that was seen speeding down a street just after midnight Feb. 8, officer Dave Pubins said Wednesday.
"The officer estimated the driver's speed to be well over 60 miles an hour, and the speed limit there was 45. In fact, his radar got the vehicle travelling at 70," Pubins said.
"The driver identified himself as Nikolai Khabibulin and the officer noticed that Khabibulin had an odour of alcohol emanating from him. Khabibulin also admitted to drinking earlier in the evening."
Khabibulin said he had consumed one glass of wine, according to a report prepared by the arresting officer, but had watery, bloodshot eyes and was speaking slowly.
He was booked on charges of driving under the influence and excessive speed and then released. He is due back in court Feb. 26.
Oilers General manger Steve Tambellini issued a statement late Wednesday saying the team was "aware of the reports from Phoenix."
"Nikolai has been fully cooperative with the authorities," Tambellini said in a statement. "Until the continuing legal process is completed we will have no further comment."
Khabibulin joined the Oilers in the off-season after stints with the Chicago Blackhawks, Phoenix Coyotes and the Winnipeg Jets, as well as a run with the Tampa Bay Lightning that included a Stanley Cup win in 2004.
The Oilers had high hopes for the 37-year-old Russian, and signed him to a four-year, US$15-million deal. But he has missed most of the season with back problems, and had season-ending surgery for a herniated disc last month.
