My Favorite Boxer of All Time

Post by Reason »

anyone who hasn't watched this needs to watch it pronto

not just about boxing if you're not a boxing fan. this guy is in his 40s (41 at time of this i think) and is a multimillionaire. he was in jail from age 17 to 22 or 23 for 9 felonies, almost all of them involving assault and robbery. he got stabbed two different times and almost died once. he goes back to his jail. they put up a fucking huge mural of him.

but more than anything, i'm just amazed how eloquent he is after all these fights. i know he's elusive but damn

anyway i fell in love with his game from watching countless youtube highlights a few years ago. i'm not a boxing expert by any means, but i know enough that he's one of the greatest fighters ever

Hopkins is a top 5 fighter of the last 20 years. Is he better than Roy Jones JR., no, regardless who wins this Saturday. Its funny that at age 35 Jones was way past his prime, yet Hopkins began his.

No.. Sugar Ray Robinson is miles ahead of anyone else.
Someone once said there was a comparison between Sugar Ray Leonard and Sugar Ray Robinson. Believe me, there's no comparison. Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest.
ג€”Sugar Ray Leonard

Without a doubt the greatest pound for pound fighter that ever lived.
ג€”Jake LaMotta

The king, the master, my idol.
ג€”Muhammad Ali

Even though he self destructed in the Buster Douglas fight and many fights after it, Mike Tyson is my favorite fighter of all-time. He scared the shit out of fighters before even throwin a punch. Because he was mentally in the head of his opponents, it made his work in the ring that much easier. Cus D'mato, Kevin Rooney and Teddy Atlas had him technically sound also. He was the most exciting heavyweight of my generation.

Nuff respect to B Hop though. I've even seen the footage on tv before. I just prefer Iron Mike.

hopkins had to move up in weight for that one though right? just askin...not making excuses.

similar to how trinidad moved up to fight hopkins (although he was just completely outclassed whereas hopkins put up a fight and gave 12 rounds to cal)

btw is calzaghe underrated or did he just fight an out-of-weight-class hopkins and a over-the-hill roy jones jr.?

Hopkins has fought at light heavy, which is a class above super middle, where Calzaghe pitty-patted him to death.
Calzaghe has a HOF-worthy resume, but he did hole up in wales pretty much his entire career and his most noteworthy wins were against questionable guys like Lacy, Kessler, Bika, and the aforementioned crusty-pants era Roy and Bernard. But he'd still outclass any of the super-six guys.

I've always liked everything about B-Hop, except watching him box. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

favorite boxer: Gatti

Calzaghe sucks. He ducked Jones for years and waited until Tarver and Glen Johnson kicked Jones ass to fight him. As for the fight he had with Hopkins it was alot closer imo than most people had it.

to each his own. i prefer the slick types, the defensive types, the counter-punchers. i LOVE WHITAKER for example. he might be my favorite if it weren't for a helluva drug fucking up his career

watching gatti is like watching rocky

i think hopkins is the best game plan boxer ive ever seen. hes like the bill bellichick of boxing. hes always prepared and relys more on strategy than talent.

the way he describes trying to rile trinidad up by making him angry instead of focused for the fight was pretty fly

B-Hop is probably my favorite boxer of all time also.
I feel the sports I follow are getting better with age. Basketball Has a group of fantastic young stars that I truely enjoy to watch. NFL with the salary cap has never been better. Golf is in its prime with tiger woods. Tennis with Nadal and Federer. All access with three different ESPN chanels. HD etc..... Boxing is on such a decline and it has been for over a decade now. I really wish boxing was where it was and where it should be.

Not really.. Check out the 140 weight class, that is one of the most stacked weight classes I have ever seen in my life.

yeah, I'd say boxing is better than it has been since the early-80s middleweight era. Even with the bullshit and the cancelled fights, there's still Pacquao changing the game with every fight, the super six, the aforementioned junior welter class, and popular punchers like Tomasz Adamek, Kelly Pavlik, and Paul Williams making entertaining fights consistently. Just ignore the heavyweights

Hopkins is a all-time great fighter and is immune to aging I guess, maybe that has something to do with him not picking up boxing until he was 24 or so. I like the fact that they have him as a commentator now too.

Hopkins is one of my favorites too, but my all-time favorite boxer is probably Hagler, Whitaker, Julio Ceaser Chavez or Hearns.
