History could be very different.. By Thrilla in Manila Frazier was legally blind in one eye. In later rounds of Thrilla in Manila the one eye he could actually see with was swollen shut. Only his corner man, Eddie Futch, knew about him being legally blind. In 14th round his corner threw in the towel to avoid risking further injury to Frazier (Futch had been in the corner for another fighter where he didn't throw in the towel and the fighter died). Frazier wanted to continue fighting. Neither of them knew that at the same time Ali was asking his corner to cut his gloves off (throw in the towel). If Frazier had just stood up off his stool in that round he would of won that fight. Ali would later say he came the closest to death he'd ever been in that fight.

Ali is also a bitch for the way he treated Frazier. Frazier supported Ali in getting his boxing license back, attending hearings and providing Ali with cash when he had none. In promoting his fights with Frazier Ali called him an uncle tom which turned almost all of Frazier black fans against him. Funny thing is Frazier grew up poor on a farm and endured much more racism growing up then Ali ever did. In a great HBO special on that fight they showed Frazier 33 years later with this as his voice mail.

I was thinking about that this morning. While it was great for spectators from an entertainment value stance, Ali was really tripping with that shit.

Frazier forgave him though, although it understandably took decades, and I respect that.
