Tanaka threw 25 pitches in five rounds of BP and not only there wasn't there anything resembling a hit, there weren't even any good swings. True, the lineup was hardly Murderer's Row and the pitchers are always ahead of the hitters in early spring, but still, Tanaka's stuff seemed to impress everyone who saw it.

"As good as advertised," said Brian McCann, who caught Tanaka for the first time. "He’s got a great split. It really falls off the table. His motion’s completely the same as his fastball, and that’s the key to getting swings and misses."

On this, both Yankee catchers agreed. "Tracking it in, I didn’t know what it was until it was halfway in," Romine said. "You’re going to see a lot of guys swinging and looking like fools on that pitch."

If anyone knows about stuff that makes a hitter swing and miss, its Austin Romine

I actually watch NPB (Because I am crazy. P.S. GO CARP). Tanaka is a very good player and def has the heart and drive. But the Yankees for sure over-paid for him. I mean, if he is as successful as Yu Darvish, that'd be a win in my book. I'm not sure that will happen.

Remember, the NPB ball is smaller and harder than the MLB baseball. It's a slight difference, but a difference.

So basically what your saying is, if Tanaka is a top five starter in the league, that would be a good thing. But you doubt that will be the case.

Very compelling stuff. Thanks for your contribution.

So basically Trout's getting only 150 mil this time, but will get to make all the money on his next contract. Why not just give him a 10 year deal?

According to George A. King III of the New York Post, Johan Santana (shoulder) topped out at 81 mph during his throwing session Tuesday.

Lady (Myjay) and Gentlemen, I've been on a True Detective kick. But let us imagine that Rust Cohle was a GM for a major league baseball squad. Would he be a tools guy or a sabermetrics guy. Most definitely a sabermetrics guy, right? Or would he be a depressing existentialist sabermetrics guy?
